The Boston Pops kicked ass last night. Their theme was "Hooray for Hollywood," which included, among other things, selections from some of John Williams' movie music. My favorite piece was from Close Encounters of the Third Kind, which was absolutley beautiful and awe inspiring. I had been looking forward to the Star Wars music but found its interpretation a bit dry and under-enthusiastic. For more details on the concert, see sugarmirage's journal.

Substituting at the high school was interesting today. The teacher I filled in for didn't expect to have a substitute, so he left no plans. Now, kids don't have the attention span for classes over an hour long even when there is something to do. So the result was students doing things like chasing each other around, jumping over desks, playing with their cell phones, stabbing each other with pencils, literally bouncing off of walls, drawing things on the board, and having heated arguements about who's-skankier-than-who. I didn't stop them because I couldn't blame them for their boredom-inspired activities.

I also ran into one of my high school teachers from Freshman year, Mr. Tsika. He looked exactly the same as he did 7 years ago - always sporting a pair of chinos, a Ralph Lauren dress shirt, and a gunmetal-grey mullet. It was nice talking about the days back when I was an awesome student. I apparently made an impression on him, seeing as how he remembers exactly where I sat in his geometry class, what proofs I did on the board, and that I had the highest average of anyone ever in his class. I want back the concentration powers that I had then, back before I was corrupted by females.
