[Maka jumps at the sudden interruption; books tumble to the ground as her concentration is interrupted.]

Oh, Erk! Sorry, you startled me!

[frumpyface]

Well, I suppose there's my answer. Another of the island's tricks, then?

[chop_meister]

I assume so! I haven't been able to come up with another explanation for it, at least.

It is pretty nice as far as tricks go, though! [The fallen books rise and begin to reshelve themselves again.] I'm getting the hang of it.

[frumpyface]

Interesting. I seem to be passed over for this one for a change.

Well, even though you're cleaning up for me, I should get back to work. Excuse me.

[He moves around Maka, accidentally brushing against the back of her hand. He gets five steps away before he stops and stares at his hand.]

Is something wrong?

[She looks quizzically at her own hand.]

... Did you feel something just now?

[frumpyface]

[A few more books on a different shelf start to rearrange themselves, the next job that Erk had to do. He turned back to Maka, and there was an uncharacteristically large smile on his face.]

It seems I did get a superpower after all.

ERK SO MOEEEE

[chop_meister]

Erk! That's so cool!

[Maka watches with an equally big smile on her face, her controlled books still flying back and forth. Then of course she has to be logical.]

So, some sort of power absorption?

[frumpyface]

I think so! Physical contact seems to absorb whatever information is necessary. I don't know if I'll be able to store powers or how long it'll last, but-

[The shine in his eyes said that he was more than willing to run the tests.]
