(no subject)
I know it's big bang season. I know that Supernatural's big bang posting starts today. I know I keep posting about a show that no one on my flist is watching. But, you know, I am just really excited about So You Think You Can Dance. I'm the new music poster for each episode, and I'm super pumped about it. It turned my whole day around when I got that confirmation email. SO.
I am going to share with you four of my favorite contemporary couple routines. Maybe next week I'll share hiphop. Or ballroom. Or broadway. Or group. Who knows! But tonight, you get contemporary.
This piece is about best friends that fall in love. I gasped the first time I saw this routine. I believe it was the first time that Travis Wall choreographed for the show, and his first return to the show after getting second place in the second season. They submitted the piece for Emmy nomination.
Mia Michaels is brilliant. Just an amazing choreographer. I'm so glad she's returning to the show after taking last season off. The piece was also submitted for Emmy nomination.
This piece WON an Emmy. Jaimie is one of my faaaavorite female dancers. She grew up in the same dance studio as Travis Wall and his adoptive brother, Danny Tidwell, who was also on the show. (They have other brothers, but they're not important to this post.) Something in the water makes those kids MAGICAL. Okay, not really. Travis's mother is an excellent teacher.
Also, technically, that was a Jazz. But whatever. This is my journal, and I'll include it in this post if I want.
I am a bit hesitant to post this. I feel like a lot of Sonya choreo is tension and build-up and pressure, and then nothing. No redeeming parts. Just tension and then it's over. I'm posting this because I think it's one of her better routines, and also, Jakob and Ellenore were my favorite dancers last season. (But it's totally okay if you learn to love Sonya. I just don't connect with her choreo. Some people think she's the best thing ever. YMMV.)

Courtney and Gev. Music: Lost | Anouk. Choreo: Mandy Moore.(Not that Mandy Moore.)
Lauren and Danny. Music: When You Look At Me | Celine Dion. Choreo: Mia Michaels.
Lacey and Kameron. Music: Dancing | Elisa. Choreo: Mia Michaels, I believe.
***Travis and Heidi. Music: Calling You | Celine Dion. Choreo: Mia again. This won an Emmy too. (Also, this was from when Travis was a contestant.
Neil and Lauren. Music: Night of the Dancing Flame | Roisin Murphy. Choreo: Wade Robson. They're both back as All-Stars this season.
Katee and Twitch. Music: Mercy | Duffy. Choreo: Mia. (I know. She does a lot of choreo.)
Allison and Ivan. Music: Why | Annie Lennox. Choreo: Tyce Diorio. (His real name is Keith.)
There's still like, 94875387456 more that I would recommend. But, uh, I'm tired of copy/pasting. Sidenote: I will always hate the producers just a little bit for not giving Jakob Karr's season a tour. I still want to see him dance live. Jakob and Ellenore. Mostly Jakob.
