Oh, Right.

I forgot. Vegas, part two:

I'm realizing that posting every agonizing detail of the remainder of the trip will exhuast us all to no end, so I am going to list highlights:

- Met some very nice Canadians at the pool on day 2. They were all different ages, like 25-45, but the level of bromance between them was endearing. We took to them immediately, probably because although there were like 20 of them, Jaimee and I realized they were, essentially, the male version of us. We loved them (one in particular, on my end) and hung out with them for a decent part of the trip.

-You'll note Alex and Katie are not appearing in this story too often. That's because (and it is a LONG story) we are essentially no longer friends. I could go on about the childishness of it and how ridiculous it all is, but I think my aunt said it best when I told her about it: We were becoming different people, our lives were going in different directions at a rapid pace, and it all just culminated dramatically in Las Vegas, of all places. I am a little saddened that it had to be like this, but the lack of stress I feel about it leads me to believe that maybe it's for the best.

-Despite the drama, the fun continued when Jaimee and I decided to stay on an extra day with her sister when she arrived. We did what had become our routine laps around the pool, drinks in hand for awhile--The pool at Caesar's is a circle, so we'd just walk around it, over and over. It's simply too damn hot to be out of the water any longer than ten minutes anyway. Then the Canadians arrived and we chatted with them for awhile. The one I selected (or rather, he selected me) as my "Vegas Boyfriend" was celebrating his birthday, so they were all in planning mode for the evening.

I should note at this point that after 3 nights, Jaimee and I had not slept more than 3 hours per night. Our eating schedule was sporadic at best...We'd be at the pool or wherever and suddenly realize it had been 8 hours since our last meal and we'd failed to notice. Then the minute we sat down to eat we'd be famished and inhale massive quantities of food. Alcoholic beverages were a factor, but we were never really that drunk at any given time. And it was a good 110 degrees out. These factors all contributed to a kind of exhaustion I'd never experienced before. We'd be so dead tired, then somehow rally, then feel like death again, then somehow rally. I drank iced tea and water at every meal, a couple of coffees a day, which were probably rendered useless with the midday margaritas and daiquiris.

Anyway, back to Saturday-We had 6pm appoinments to go get tattoos. Yes, that's right all, I felt compelled to go get more doodling done on my body. In my defense, since I know some of you are thinking "But if you're getting one removed, why get another one?" Because, I thought about this new one, rather than walking into the shop with a friend and saying "Hey, since I'm here, could you draw some permanent pictures on my body?" Jaimee and I got the same design, it reads "2008" in Roman Numerals. I modified mine a bit, it's smaller with a bit of color. We thought, this being such a milestone year for us both, that it was fitting. And I love it.

After the great inking adventure we went back to the hotel and had sushi for dinner. We ran into some of the Canadians there, and they relayed the plans for the night-we were all to go to Studio 54 at the MGM grand. I take a shower back at the room, and the three of us (Jaimee, her sister, and I) decided to watch some TV, "just for a bit" around 11. I wake up at 4:30am, with the TV still on and Jaimee and her sister snoozing away across the room. Whoops. Like I said, we were exhausted. I called my Canadian to apologize, and had what was probably the best sober-to-drunk conversation ever. He actually at one point said, "You're at the hotel? Wait, we're staying at Caesar's Palace, right?" I said yes, we were, and if there was any more confusion, it said so right there on his room key. Unfortunately we didn't see them again, but my Canadian did call from the airport to say goodbye, which was nice. He also called Thursday, and yesterday-evidently they're coming down from Vancouver next week for a baseball game. Not all 20 of them, I hope.

The strange thing is, despite the complete lack of actual rest, I came back from the trip more relaxed than I have been in a long time. I think it was just the fact that Vegas, as trashtastic and tacky as it is, condones unabashedly ridiculous behavior. There it is completely acceptable to wander buildings with your sunglasses on, or tell complete strangers how attractive you think they are. Obnoxiousness is not only accepted, but encouraged. And I am happy to say I took full advantage of it. I don't feel like I wasted a minute of it, which is something I'm striving for in general lately. It was just so nice to feel that unrestricted. The new routine here--summer school and more work, was not an easy transition to make upon my return though, and my body has been struggling to catch up.

Ah well, who cares, I loved it. Can't wait to go back.
