Procrastination and loneliness results in.... 2006: Summer Sighs
The following aren't necessarily songs I haven't listened to an unhealthy amount of times this summer... due to ipod-weirdness and the only recent acquisition of one, half have less than ten plays, and one has zero! But, yeah, one has 63... *cough* or more *cough*
1.
Oceanlab - Clear Blue WaterLeave behind your fears/ Please believe/ You will not falter/ There's no danger here/ You can breathe/ In clear blue water
I told George in a letter that this seemed like the song of my summer - I listened to it a lot, especially during stressful times or when George's absence was keenly felt.
2.
Thalia - SeduccionNo puedo resistir la tentación de tu piel/ Cuando me tocas mil cosas me provocas/ Yo me alejo para sentir alivio/ Y volver al aire tibio, calmar esta revolución
This has actually been a guilty pleasure of mine for awhile... but when I had the house to myself, boy was this blasted. It fit the happy-early summer moods very nicely, especially since I could also spin around with the moves Lee and I picked up at Salsa lessons.
3.
Al Hirt - Green Hornet perfect for all those murderous rampa- I mean, plant watering.
On consideration, as far as movie related songs go, I should've put Tank, the opening theme to cowboy bebop, since I actually finally finished that series!
4.
Christine Fawson - It's A Most Unusual Day It's a most unusual day/ Feel like throwing my worries away/ As an old native-born Californian would say/ It's a most unusual day
Just got her album in June, after seeing her as a trumpet player in a Diva concert, just in time for the commute to CAEN with my dad. We listened to a lot of stuff, actually, which was grand, but she was the best and truest first find.
5.
Piazzolla - GolazoThanks Alice! 'Twas not my Piazzolla, but I really took to this, and it led to a small Piazzolla spree in which I listened to your two gifted ones and the Assad brothers' CD non-stop.
6.
Oceanlab - SatelliteYou're a half a world away/ But in my mind I whisper every single word you say.
I know, I know, considering how much I listened to my entire trance playlist, I really shouldn't put two songs buy the same group on this one... So the lyrics also happen to be a perfect match on this one. Shoot me.
7.
Aleks Syntek & Ana TorrojaDuele el amor, sin ti/ Duele hasta matar. / Siento la humedad, en mi/ De verte llorar, ni hablar/ Si es que tu te vas, de aqua/ Creo que a mi me da
The lyrics really clicked for some reason, and I like this guy's voice. The melodic line really gripped me, as well... so now I have a CD of his. ^^
8.
Death Cab For Cutie - Summer SkinI don't recall a single care/ Just greenery and humid air/ Then Labor day came and went/ And we shed what was left of our summer skin
There's such a... acceptance of melancholy in this song... A reminder of things ending, sadly, but not so sadly you lose your sense of being. I've really fallen in love with it, and it's been played a lot since I gained it from Kristi earlier... this month? Or right before.
9/10.
Movements II. & III. from Holst's second SuiteThis actually has an odd discovery. As some know, I ditched the states to attend graduate-level classes and seminars at Acadia University. Most people there were taking credit - I was not - so instead of conducting the full ensemble on the second to last day, I played in it. It was easily one of the most amazing experiences of my life - playing surrounded by professionals! Somewhat sight-reading around professionals! *looks innocent* But, regardless, this was one of the pieces we worked on. I got quite a few stories about it, including the lyrics. The "Song of The Blacksmith" (III) was quite interesting... stuff about sparks flying all around his middle and other such innuendoes. Unfortunately, I don't have and can't find those, nor do I own a vocal version....... But I have some from the second one:
Abroad as I was walking, one evening in the spring, I head a maid in Bedlam so sweetly for to sing; Her chains she rattled with her hands, and thus repli-ed she: "I love my love because I know my love loves me! O cru-el were his parents who sent my love to sea, And cru-el was the ship that bore my love from me; Yet I love his parents since they're his although they've ruined me: I love my love because I know my love loves me!" it goes on from there, and I think he actually returns to her...
11.
Radhika Miller - OriginsSomehow I got addicted (or re-addicted) to a few songs on a happiness-themed mix I did awhile ago. This one follows chronologically, since I replayed it over and over while on the way back from the Wind Conducting Symposium. It's so nice.
12.
The Great Lakes Myths Society - Across The BridgeDark mellow rings around the moon/ Rainy season in my room/ Beaded glasses/ Half-written passages/ Dark mellow rings around the moon
Again, nice. Started sprinkling it in during Acadia, continued smiling. It should be added to that
happy list.
13.
Seatbelts - DijuridoThis is like Summer Skin in its mood... relaxing, somewhat pensive, somewhat regretful... and really gorgeous, too.... I fell asleep to it many times when away...
hence, it currently has 156 plays. On my computer. So goodness knows how many times it's actually played.
14.
RiotAct - California SoulWhen hear the beat/ You're going to tap your feat/ And you got to move/ 'Cuz it's really such a groove/ It's really catch hold on you
I have this bizarre annoyance ingrained in my mind... for some reason, I found this song while I was cleaning the bathroom.... really cleaning, with those icky sterilization chemicals. I couldn't stop listening to it, but my ipod on repeat... and I kept ranking the headphones out of the socket, making me extremely frustrated, since I had to then remove my gloves in order to put it back...... excellent song, though.
15.
Panic! At the Disco - Lying Is the Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off>Not Safe For Work! Or Parents!<
Let's get these teen hearts beating. Faster, faster/ So testosterone boys and harlequin girls,/ Will you dance to this beat, and hold a lover close?
I'm not sure what to say about this one. I really love the lyrics... I love most of their lyrics, I think. The line's great, too.... excellent for intense emotions. And cross stitch. I swear.
16.
Reel Big Fish - She Has a Girlfriend Now>Not Safe For Work! Or Parents!<
he said she found someone who's gonna hold her hand/ she said she found someone who's gonna understand/ she don't need nobody to be her man
George Introduced this to me awhile ago... I think it's hilarious and great. Possibly the best part of the Cal trip was singing it in the car with Eric. Go figure. :P
Homophobes beware!
17.
Beirut - Postcards from ItalyThe times we had/ Oh when the wind would blow with rain and snow/ Were not all bad/ We put our feet just were they had/ had to go/ never to go
Just... yeah.
18.
James Taylor - Baby BuffaloAre you there?/ Can you hear me?/ Somewhere near me/ In the morning long ago/ Had to hold you so close/ Had to never let go
One that really spans the expansive of the entire summer. My dad and I listened to his CD a lot during our shared commute. There's something so exquisitely wonderful about... everything. The voice, lyrics, the harmony. Perfect for landing in a plane, especially if you've been faking sleep so the nice flight attendants don't tell you to turn your music off.
19.
Nek - Si Se Que Te Tengo a TiEl verano duerme/ En nuestra cama/ Tu prendiendo fuego/ En cada madrugada
What can I say? IT'S SO DAMN CHEERY. Maybe cheery isn't quite the perfect description, but whatever. A great love song, in my opinion, and a clear voice, and chipper lyrics... and.... it's so damn happy; you've got to dance.
20.
Hayley Westenra - Across the Universe of TimeWhen the sea falls from the shore/ As the light sinks low, will I see you any more?/ As the rain falls from the sky/ Can I bring you back, from a distant lullaby?
I'm so weird. I got this urge to listen to the singer awhile back, partly because part of her song got stuck in my head for no apparent reason, but I didn't want to play the two songs I have on my computer because of the "Last Time Played" option, which encapsulates both of them in memories I'm not quite ready to let go to. So I went on itunes and bought this one because I liked the first 5 seconds of the clip. However, it remained mostly unlistened to until just a bit ago. I wonder why I waited... or how I could forget it was on my hard drive...
So, there you go, all.
Especially Kristi. ^-^
Enjoy!
Sorry about the m4a format... really don't know what to do about it. I suppose if anyone wants a CD instead, I can just go ahead and burn one.
But all is up and finished! ^^
