A couple of fic recs.

Ever since I started reading the fics in lgbtfest over the weekend, I've been reading fics here and there all week. That's sort of strange because I haven't been in a big fic-reading place for a few years now, but I'm enjoying it, so hey, why not?

Anyway, here's two fics I read over the past week that I definitely recommend.

-" The Rumour Mill" by such_heights for lgbtfest. Harry Potter: Ginny/Luna, PG-13.

(This was based on the prompt Luna has always had as open, untroubled, and inquisitive an attitude toward sexuality as toward everything else, but other people aren't quite so accepting.)

As you might have noticed, I was thanked in the notes for the fanfic. It's mostly because I'm lucky. I have such_heights friended, and she's an amazing writer, so I feel really priviledged that I got to help in any way with getting this fic toward completion, even if it was only by providing encouragement. The characterization of Luna is amazing -- so many people write her crazier than she actually is -- and there's a bunch of wonderfully surprising moments in the story, so it's definitely worth a read.

-" The Crow on the Cradle" by kroki_refur. Supernatural: Gen, incomplete (there's seventeen chapters so far), PG-13.

I friended kroki_refur a few days ago because I've been enjoying her episode recaps so much. (I have bands in Guitar Hero and Rock Band named Fell On Pie!, for goodness's sake.) Apparently, this was the right time to do so; Refur's been writing "The Crow on the Cradle" since early 2007, and she hadn't updated in at least nine months, if not longer, but she just posted the newest part yesterday. As previously mentioned, this new chapter brought up the total to seventeen, and they're all a decent length. I managed to read it all in about twelve hours, even with school.

Basically, all I'm going to tell you about it is that it's AU and features Jessica in a prominent role, which is a very good thing in this case. It takes a talented writer to pull off a fic that's primarily from the POV of a female character, especially in a fandom that has so many stories featured on just two male characters. Beyond that, all you're getting from me without reading the fic is the summary:

On October 2, 2005, Sam Winchester walked out of the apartment he shared with his girlfriend Jess in the middle of the night and didn't come back.

Edit: As part of the improvements I've been making to the community -- since I'm going to be posting more, I want it to be more functional -- I updated the profile to make it a little more readable and added "length" to the fic information before the LJ-cut, which means you'll be able to tell at a glance the general word count and whether it's a one-shot or a chaptered story.

There's more stuff I want to do before the weekend, primarily in the form of making a community icon, but I might do some other things as well.

Edit again: The last chapter of "The Crow on the Cradle" was posted in mid-June of 2008, so if there's anyone who reads this that doesn't like to read WIPs, feel free to check it out. The entire story clocks in at over 98,000 words, but it's engaging the entire time.
