Dear Author Letter 2011

Nov 20, 2011 13:21

First of all, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Second of all, browsing me on AO3 will show you a ton of fic that I've written, which might give you some insight into my likes/dislikes/brain. :D

Request Fandom 1: Lamb - Christopher Moore
Biff, Josh

**If you get stuck on one of my requests and chose to switch to this one, it is doable. It is only one book and, speaking for myself, it'll pull you in. On the other hand, I'll warn you right now that this book is hilariously heretical, as Biff is the childhood best friend of Jesus Christ, who goes by Josh in this series. So if you think that reading it will offend you at all, then please don't push yourself into reading it.**

I love Biff! I'll really take anything with him in it, and Josh is a fantastic bonus. Fun times with his lessons during his stay with Balthazar and the girls(Gen or Het)? Great! Studying with the monks? Wonderful! Coming back and gathering followers, being the cool one who knows Josh best? Awesome! Biff/Josh? I'd have your babies. :D

Which basically boils down to: if it has Biff in it, I will love you. ;)

I'm not sure what I could add to this, other than to say that I love Biff's crazy "inventions," like sarcasm, and the fantastic multi-dimensional nature of his relationship with Josh, and for that matter, his unusual relationship with God. I love the way he tries, in his own way, to stand up for and protect Josh, and the way he will do anything for him. I love them as children, as teenagers, and as adults. I want to know what happened to Biff and/or Josh while Biff was dead for all those years. I want to know how his story ends. I wouldn't even mind something from after he's lived out his life with Maggie and is returning to Josh for the first time.

Really, truly, if you write me ANYTHING with Biff in it, I will be thrilled.

Also, I'm assuming that anyone who volunteered to write for Lamb doesn't have a problem with heresy, so any attempts to capture Biff's voice and mindset in the storytelling would be awesome. Liberal misquoting of the bible and new inventions would be fabulous. ;) (But really, when you phrase it like that, does it remind anyone else of Shawn from Psych? "I've heard it both ways." Come on, tell me that wouldn't be a hilarious crossover.)

Request Fandom 2: Tricksters - Tamora Pierce
Alianne Cooper, Kyprioth , Nawat Crow, Dovasary Balitang

**Again, if you get stuck and want to read these, Aly and the others only appear in the two Trickster's books: Trickster's Choice and Trickster's Queen. (Alright, Aly makes a brief cameo in Diane's first book, but she's, like, two!) It is entirely possible to write about these four characters without having read the other three Tortall quartets, and if you wrote a story set in/before Choice, then you would only have to read one of them. Of course, I dare you to read Choice and then not to read Queen to find out how it all turns out, but if you’re seriously pressed for time, that can wait until after Yuletide. :D **

Oh my god there are other characters I didn't suggest! Somone else must love this Tortall set! Basically I am so starved for anything in this fandom that I'll take whatever you give me. Aly or Kyprioth being sneaky and awesome? Done! Aly and Nawat being all adorable together? Fantastic! Aly and Dove being all awesome and/or perhaps slighty shippy together? Love! Kyprioth sending them off on another task/adventure? Wonderful!

Again, those're just a few thoughts off the top of my head. I will really take ANYTHING you are willing to give me in this world.

I love the Trickster series best of all the Tortall Books. Anything based around these characters, either before, during, or after the books would be great! (Also, I put my four favorites, but please don't feel that you have to include all four of them, or that someone else from the books can't come out to play as well)

I love Aly's love of life and the pleasure she gets from doing spy things. Her depth of knowledge and sneaky ways are very impressive. Her way of living with one finger stuck in everyone else's business while seeming to be nowhere near them is great as well. In Choice, the way she moves between the family, the conspirators, and her day job with the goats and crows and Kyprioth is fascinating. In Queen, the way she knows what everyone is doing, including her fellows, by way of the darkings is fabulous. The way she moves in the shadows for so long and then all of a sudden there is a huge result (a la Topabaw) is fascinating. And her personality in general I just adore.

Kyprioth is fascinating, especially in the few scenes where Aly sees the chasm between his elder statesman persona and the ruthless god who uses mortals for his own gains. Not that I see him as a villain, but simply as a very complex character. His love for his isles, and for their native people (in general, but occasionally in specific, as with Ochobu) is wonderful, and the many intricacies of his relationships with his siblings are fascinating. I also love how he has human flaws, like the way he jumps to conclusions and allows anger to overtake his judgment when Sarai leaves.

I love how calculating Dove is; she thinks before she speaks and she always wants to learn more about everything. The loyalty/friendship/potentially love between her and Aly is fabulous to watch as it develops. I also love the differences between her and Sarai, and how the Raka have to get used to her. I think Nawat is adorable and his love of tricks and teasing is a good match for Aly. Plus, it was so fun to see him grow up throughout the books. I love when he brings her sparklies, or when he learns to tease.

I would love anything set during or after the books. Gen, Aly/Dove, Aly/Nawat, Dove/Aly/Nawat, even Aly/Kyprioth or Aly/Nawat/Kyprioth if it pleases you (I truly have no preference among all those options). Any scenes from within the rebellion, Dove and Aly talking late at night, Aly and Nawat raising their family, Dove being queen, Aly being spymaster, Kyprioth interfering in either of those two jobs, Kyprioth making another wager with/assignment for Aly… or whatever you can think of.

Request Fandom 3: Looking for Group (Comic)
Richard

**If you are stuck on another request and would like to get into this one, it is a webcomic, and therefore easy to find. It is decently long - enough to establish some really good dimension to the characters, but not so long as to leave nothing up to the imagination. Richard appears in the first strip, and either he or his speech bubbles appear on almost every page. And if they don't, well then they should. *nods* **

Oh my god Richard! I love him with all of my black little heart! You could literally write me anything about Richard and as long as he wasn't ridiculous OOC, I would love you and offer to have your babies.

That said, any of the other characters could come along for the ride, especially Cale, Sooba, and THE BUNNY! :D As you might have noticed, there is a theme with my requests - I'm so starved for fic that I'll take it all! :D

Have I mentioned how much I love Richard? Well I do. I love characters with moral ambiguity, or who simply don't get the morals of regular people (See Kyprioth above), and Richard falls right into this category. I love his sense of humor, I love his bunny, I love his pillaging shovel ™, I love his bear arms, I love his kidney hat, I love his hometown, I love his wanton disregard for life in all forms, and I just basically love him. A fic about him going around, doing his thing, covered in other people's blood, would be wonderful.

I can see him gen, or totally in love with Cale, which is so totally canon it isn't even funny sometimes vaguely hinted at in canon. I also find his relationship with the Bloodrage ( they gave me a card!) hilarious.

I do understand that blood and mayhem isn't everyone's cup of tea (which is really too bad, because it's delicious). If you signed up for 'Any' and didn't expect it, or just can't write prominent Richard, then backstory on Bunny, Benny, Cale, or the Bloodrage would be great too. (But please don't make the focus of the story the Benny/Cale relationship.) Also a gen piece with the group going on a mini adventure as they did in the early comics would be cool, too.

Request Fandom 4: The Ballad of Mona Lisa (music video)
Any

**Again, if you are stuck on the others, this is probably the easiest of my fandoms to get into, as it is just one music video, though the opening shot is kind of like a flashback to one of their other ones...**

I can't believe that someone nominated this! I love P!atD, and I love this music video. Anything, ANYTHING, from this would thrill me down to my toes!

Pretty much I mean that. I've loved Panic! since their first album came out, and I love the strange view of life that they bring to their music and music videos. With this one in particular, I LOVE the steampunk aspects of it, and the ghostly ones. If you need some plot ideas, how about backstory on the dead Brandon and Mary? A story about the band playing at the funeral. Backstory on the world in general. Something about all those rules. What happens next? What's up with ghost Brandon? How are ghost Brandon, dead Brandon, and singing Brandon related?

(ETA: I discovered that someone else who requested this fandom, VerboseWordsmith, did an AMAZING job of hotlinking to all kinds of fun resources for this fandom, so if you wanted to check out that kind of thing, I shall link to their page like a sneaky linking thing.)

Just go with it. As you may have noticed, I am so starved for all four fandoms that I will literally take anything!

Thanks!

(Also, I discovered that Danger Days is a YT fandom! *does a happy dance*)
