Today we welcome you to a sneak peak of CJTV's newest addition to their Fall lineup. Following the tradition of such Movie-to-Television classics as My Big Fat Greek Life, and based on the popular British teen movie, we bring you the Bend it Like Beckham follow up: Bend it.
Casting:
Parminder Nagra will reprise her role as Jesminder "Jess" Bhamra. Starting her Freshman year at Santa Clara, this young footballer will have to deal with classes, practice, and being far away from her family for the first time, all while getting used to the culture shock of California.
Allie Gonino will replace Keira Knightly as Juliette "Jules" Paxton, fellow Santa Clara Freshman. Away from her home and her overbearing mother, this blonde footballer will do everything she can to support her friend and roommate while living her own dream in California.
Rupak Ginn will also play a fan favorite, Tony Kher, who follows his best friend to America. Starting his own studies, Tony will also begin to tentatively explore his sexuality and his own dreams, far from the strictures of his family and culture.
And introducing...
Joanna Garcia as Annette Morris, the women's soccer coach at Santa Clara. A former player herself who played professionally briefly before returning to Santa Clara to coach, Annette has little sympathy for her players. This tough task mistress will do everything she can to whip her girls into a winning team. But when Jess and Jules run into real problems, will she be willing to lend a friendly ear?
Jeanine Mason as Brooklyn Martinez, the RA of the Freshmen all-girls hall. As a junior on the soccer team and a double phys ed and dance major, Brooklyn still makes the time to take Jess and Jules under her wing when they arrive for the summer pre-season. She takes it upon herself to show the new girls the ropes of living in Santa Clara, and introduce them to American-style college life.
Natalie Hall as Samantha "Sammy" Fisher, the girl in the room next-door to Jess and Jules. This perky volleyball player is also in the dorms early for the summer pre-season, and can't wait to hang out with her new neighbors. Her friendly determination to know everything about Jess, Jules, and their frequent visitor Tony is endearing at first, but could it lead to trouble?
Episodes:
1.01 - Welcome to America
The girls arrive in California, where Brooklyn is waiting to pick them up from the airport. She points out the local "must knows" as she takes them to the campus for the first time. Jess and Jules unpack in their new room, and then go to bed early, ready to report for their first practice the next morning. At practice, Annette runs the girls into the ground all morning before letting them slink away. Jess and Jules collapse back in their room, and begin to wonder if they have done the right thing, coming here. Friendly neighbor Sammy stops in and cheers them up, regaling them with the tale of her hellish volleyball practice earlier that day. She invites them out for post-practice ice cream, and their friendship is born.
1.02 - Revolving Door
A week has passed, and Jess and Jules are settling in to their new life. However, their tentative routine is destroyed when Jess' Canadian family comes to visit. A host of misunderstandings ensue, as first Sammy's male visitor (a taboo in the all-girls' hall) wanders into the wrong room, and then a friendly gesture between teammates is misconstrued. The family is concerned that Jess should not have come to California, and despite Jules' and Brooklyn's protests, they call her parents.
1.03 - Chaperone
A few days have gone by, and Jess is beside herself, worrying that her parents are going to make her come back, and also worrying about their first game. It is only a pre-season scrimmage, but it is against bitter rival Stanford, and Annette is relentlessly driving the team in preparation. The morning of the game, Jess and Jules are awoken by a knock on their door. Brooklyn is there, escorting their visitor - Tony. He explains that he was sent to America as Jess's chaperone, the only way to appease her parents, and his chance to escape their strict cultural rules. Much cheered by his presence, both girls can focus on the game. But how will it go?
