Without cover, 'cause I'm too sexy for your hotlink.
So, Ali Project released this album, Poison, a few weeks ago. When I downloaded and heard it, I first thought: "OMG AWESOME." And then, my second thought was: "I am sooo writing a review of this". And here I am!
Totally useless. IUEFOHEORIUF
Track 1 - Poisoner. The perfect beginning for this album. Why?, you ask me. Because it has catchy rhythm, mix of electronic tunes with classical instruments and Arika-san' voice is perfectly clear; this are three things present in all the album. Also, there's the alliteration when the lyrics say's "me ni wa me yo, ha ni wa ha yo" (an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth) and "tsumi wa tsumi batsu wa nashi" (the crime makes the punishment), that sounds just too good. It has also an opera feelings that gets you in the mood for more.
Track 2 - Shojo Kaitai, Arui wa Hakkotsu Tou Yori Shoujotachi wa Hishou Suru. Such a tense beginning, with that violin-or-something! It gives you the perfect bizarre atmosphere that will follow you through the music. After hearing a few times, I think it's kind of similar to Rara Eve Shinseiki or Mirai no Eve, or maybe the both of them mixed in one. Well, what can I say? I love Rara Eve Shinseiki and Mirai no Eve. Now that I thought about it, it's really strange; a song that talks about virgins trying to flee from human life (or so I understood from the lyrics. Don't trust me much) it's similar to songs with the Eve name on it! Ha ha. Well, it's a beautiful, melancholic and scary song. And a heck of a long name!
Track 3 - Odokumi Lady. I don't want to be biased but, God, this song is fantastic. Seriously. Great rhythm, great lyrics, great instrumental... it's so awesome I want to stop writing about it, afraid that I'll stain my image. It's surely my favorite song. Why? Well, who can resist to that rhythm? And I learned a lot of phobias and paraphilias with the lyrics of this song. Instructive and just great. Definitely five stars.
Track 4 - Ahen Shindai. First of all: the lyrical beginning and ending suits this song so well it almost hurts. It's marvelous to see how the lyrics, the melody and the name of the song fit so perfectly. So melancholic, a little scary, so in place! A really good song, even if it hasn't the same impact of the others so far.
Track 5 - Gokushoku Ichidai Onna. Hold your pants, ladies, because this is the über. Shock. It's jazzy, and it made me scream "WTF" when it suddenly started on the first time I was hearing the album. Ali Project, if I remember well, never made any sort of jazz. The closer they got was Momoiro Tengoku, and, well, to put it clearly, it's not a proper jazz. But this? This is crazy. It's a dark, ironic and auto-destructive jazz, with amazing melody and a clear and limpid vocal. Kore wa c'est la vie! The lyrics are too scary for such a lively song, but it's great too see they still keep the Dark Ali Project side, even when doing something totally out of their style. If Odokumi Lady is my favorite, this surely takes second or third place.
Track 6 - Animals on earth. This track is a mystery to me. A friend who's not Alipro's fan said she loved it, but, although the lyrics are really cool, I can't help to think it's a somewhat weak track. Maybe because it comes between two strong songs? I don't know, but it's not very memorable and sounds a bit like their anime songs (like Waga Routashi Aku no Hana or Yuukyou Seishunka, I mean, not Kitei no Tsurugi or Jigoku no Mon). Despite it all, it's a sort of apocalyptic song, and I like it, really. It's just not "awwwesome".
Track 7 - Shanghai Ryouran Romantica. Yes, reading the name you maybe think "God, it's Hibotan and Beijing Lovers all over again". And it is. And it's AWESOME. I love this track madly, because Arika-san' vocals are in a innocent tune and the melody equals tons of gold. Like Hibotan, it really has a Chinese aura and even some words in Chinese, but it also has that epic touch in the melody, just like Beijing Lovers. More than great, really. Deserves a spotlight.
Track 8 - Seikimatsu Genesis. When it begins with that medieval voices (?? or "Wakai Shisha Kara no Requiem" vocals), it already gives the feeling that it will be an epic track. And its more than just epic. I have this surely between my favorites ever from Ali Project, because it's genial. Genial, I say! There's almost no instruments in some parts, just Arika-san's singing and the WSKnR vocals (hoho, I'm sooo lame). It's so apocalyptic and genial that I feel like kissing Katakura-san's cheeks forty times. Odokumi Lady and Gokushoku Ichidai Onna, sorry, but this is just gold.
Track 9 - Kono Kuni no Mukou ni. The album's end it's coming. Oh no! Stay still. This music has such a Kamigami no Tasogare/Romance feelings that it's impossible not to hear it with closed eyes. Come on, how can a 4:57 minutes lasting song be so touching and... touching? It leaves you with a light heart and a full head. The violins, oh my, I'm beginning to think I have a violin fetish. 'Cause, man! So beautiful! It's the best last track someone could find for this. Oh, wait, that's not the last track! Of course not, the best is coming! It's the instrumental track! Cheers!
Track 10 - discipline. I've waited so much for this I almost cried. I love Alipro's instrumentals, hard; also, it's the last song of a awesome album. And guess what? This song is awesome too! Isn't it rewarding, to like Ali Project? The medieval feeling has its heir here, with a banjo (???? I DON'T THINK SOOO. Again, don't trust me) and violins and oh, the violins. The name "discipline" really suits it (like gai desespoir! Do you guys remember it? Another great instrumental.) and it's such a beautiful and well-made ending to such a beautiful and well made album that, when it's playing its last notes, you want to put it on repeat and hear it all over again. I did it! Three times.
So, now the radio is playing RESCUE; being so, I'll leave you with these biased words of mine. Hope you all hear Poison, because its really breathtaking!
AND SOMEDAY I'LL HAVE IT. JUST WAIT FOR MY MONEY TO COME TO ME! MWUAHUAHUA! D:
