Rainy Tokyo, Crowded Asakusa & Last minute shopping

Mar 31, 2008 21:50

it was a cold day. it was raining and windy. temperature was 11 degree celsius. my umbrella almost flew away.
so i had no choice but to start the day late and make some changes to my plan. so i start the day first to ikekuburo, remembering that i need to get something from the animate there and some from tokyu hands. well, different animate branch, the things they sell differ slighly too. main reason been that i want to stay indoors. the chill outside is no joke. fortunately i have this arm warmer which i got from shibuya. it may not be of much help but at least it helps keep part of my hands warm.  not much luck today, the stuff that i want has sold out. damn. anyway, still managed to get some steals.

hurray!! finally i ge to savour their curry rice in tokyo. felt that my katakana has improved a little too. =P
this eating place is not really the same as the one i had went before. this one is big!! it has about 4, 5 coupon machine and had different section for different type of food. eg, curry is on the left while soba and ramen is on the left. sometimes i do find that having some knowlegde of the jap language does help, as not all places has english menu. especially places where they served cheap and delicious food.

seeing that the rain was not as heavy. i went back to ueno, instead of asakusa. believing that i may missed most stores if i was there late. remember they closes early. and so i started my last minute shopping at ueno ameyoko cho. it was fun when you have stumbled on those cheap steal shop. got lotsa snacks for myself,  family again, colleague and friends. in the end, i end up with 3 big bags. so got myself a school bag (those used by jap high sch student) and managed to put most stuffs in it, so i wont end up looking so clumsy.

talking about clumsy. i am quite a blur queen at times. i wasted 300yen for nothing today at the asakusa station. i wanted to unload my stuff in those baggage locker so that i can shop freely at the "tourist trap". haha... i went to lock the locker and paid for it without putting in my things. stupid me. taught i could get a refund. so went to the information counter at the station and try to converse with the lady there. it was hard, as she could not understand english. and.. had better go take bath first......

1 hour later......
ok, am back from my bath. nice and warm! arrr.... my cheeks are hot. hehehe...
so i had a hard time trying to convey my message across.. somehow after much single phrases and hand signing. she understood me. to my disppointment, there is no refund. anyone out there please make sure your stuffs are placed in the locker before you pay, ok.
feeling a little angered, i decided to lug the heavy things to the temple. who cares. i can still managed.

out from the station. ta...da... the philip starke's building (the fire or the poop whichever you called it) pretty impressive. hurray, another dream came true.

oh mine. finally i understood by what junee has mentioned that the asakusa is a tourist trap. there are stores after stores selling souvenir. i also spotted one shop selling those sweet cakes at 1100yen when i got mine at ameyoko for 800plus. in the end i spend the least there only 310yen for a magnet for the fridge at home, 100yen for fortune note.... maybe becos i feel a little broke too, thus had no wish to buy anything.

went back to ueno before taking the JR to akihabara again. then i suddenly thought of why didnt i deposit my baggage at ueno earlier since i am going back there at the end. stupid me, twice. this time i had no choice but paid for yen to deposit my stuffs. dont think i can carry them around again.

finally got to walk round the small alley under the station at aki. there are so many electrical related stuffs that seems so foreign to me. next, to animate again. haha... then look around for casing for my e-dic. it was a fruitless trip and no choice end up at mac for dinner. cant seem to find a cheap eating place in the windy cold place. ws facinated by #1 service is not that fast compared with sg. #2 the have this cardboard thing that surrounds the burger, so the filling wont drop off. #3 after eating had to clear your plate at same time separate the contents (burnable and non-burnable).

was cold, tired so went back to my ryokan. *sign
tonight was my last night here. *double sign
lugguage? *triple sign = dont know how to squeeze all stuffs in

had better get back and packed if not no time.
