From the queer nation manifesto-

"I hate straights:

I hate straight people who can't listen to queer anger without saying, 'Hey, all straight people aren't like that. I'm straight, too, you know.' As if their egos don't get enough stroking or protection in this arrogant, heterosexist world. Why must we take care of them, in the midst of our just anger brought on by their fucked up society? Why add the reassurance of 'Of course I don't mean you. You don't act that way.' Let them figure out for themselves whether they deserve to be included in out anger."

This passage really speaks to me, at least from my feminist perspective. I hate expressing anger at the patriarchy and having the man I'm having the conversation with go, "But what about me?" And they can never understand why I get defensive about that question. Well, the above statement perfectly expresses why I feel that I am under no obligation to explain my exceptions. This is especially annoying because I claim to hate women about as much, if not more, than I claim to hate men. But they don't every force me to specify exactly what I mean when I am claiming to hate women, do they?
