my little social butterflies

This holiday season I am making many more efforts to keep the kids busy with playdates and out doing stuff. I don't want them saying that "mama has a cool job, but it sucked because we never did anything over christmas". So far so good, but it comes with its own set of headaches.

For one, I have to be a better housekeeper than usual. I'll admit I am not the best or the most consistent. However, having an occasion to do it is good for everything. Plus, the house is easier to keep clean if it is already clean, right? Second, the kids are old enough to get jealous about their lack of playdate. Bruce definitely gets cranky when Dana has somebody to play with and he doesn't get to have his own special person. Dana less so, but still squawks about wanting to set up playdates with other kids in the future. Then there's Byron sometimes. He needs regularity and equilibrium more than most people, and my hustle to get everything prepared just stresses him out.

Results are overwhelmingly positive though. I feel fortunate to have friendly, personable kids who are brave and welcoming.
