Author:
choi_minjuWarning: There will be angst and third person view. Ah, and I tend to swear, and my work tends to reflect that.
Rated: PG-15
Disclaimer: No one owns humans, unless you’re in some 18th century shit about peasants and slavery. Otherwise, this story is entirely mine and the imagination is from all this escalated stress.
Summary: This is a stereotypical love drama in high school, where the jocks are the assholes and the school diva will go at great lengths to stay away from the boy who broke his heart.
Pairings: Minho / Key
Note: This is for
chocolatos because it was her birthday, and this counts as an extremely late gift due to studies. Happy birthday~ !!! I hope this is what you’d like to read usually. >.< P.S.: I screwed up the banner by adding You in the title. It's Never Let Go, for sure.
“You cheater!” A glass vase was thrown at a tall boy, but he ducked and it luckily hit the wall.
“Hey, you’re the one who didn’t want this thing going on between us!” The boy tried fighting back verbally, but he knew he fucked up big time and whatever he says now would make it worse.
“Excuse me?!” The slightly shorter boy scoffed and growled at him. “I said I wasn’t ready to tell my parents! My God, don’t you ever listen to me?! I keep telling you they’re not used to homsexuality! We had to give them time - but YOU had to SLEEP with NICHKHUN HORVEJKUL?!” And with that, he chased the tall boy out of the house with his father’s chainsaw.
The tall boy ran fast until he reached to the other side of the city, then made sure that no one with a chainsaw was following him. When the coast was clear, he sighed and ruffled his hair in frustration.
He had fucked up the one thing that was going good in his life.
Kim Kibum was the school diva, and everyone acknowledged him of that title. Hell, he was the one who came up with the title alone and also with a nickname - Almighty Key.
Key always worn pink in his uniform and since he was the grandson of the high school principal, he got away with almost everything. (Except for his grades and behavior. His grandfather was very strict when it came to that.) Because Key was openly bisexual, the principal kept the school an open place where you can be with whoever you want to be with.
However, the student body still grew shocked, even the principal, when word got out that Choi Minho was dating the school diva.
Choi Minho was one of the tallest students in school, as well as one of the smartest and most athletic. The boy grew up with only one mind in focus - sports.
That factor still remained in the principal’s head as to why his own grandson would choose to be with a student athlete. He was very close to Key and practically raised him with his late wife. Key hated people who sweat a lot and had never liked the idea of going near the gyms, unless it was for dancing.
From the principal’s thorough investigation (by hiring one of the freshmen students to spy on the strange couple), it was clear that the two were merely an item, which meant that they became a couple because of how good they looked together and of their fame status in the school. Principal Kim did not like this reason alone and decided to look into the matter further.
Although the top student of the school, Lee Jinki, was uncomfortable with the subject, he ended up being Principal Kim’s counselor and discussed the pros and cons of the relationship between his grandson and the star athlete of the school. They both concluded that the “item” reason didn’t make sense, because Key or Minho would have ended up being an “item” with any other popular girl in school, if that were the case.
Jinki suggested to Principal Kim that they use Key’s best friend, Lee Taemin, for more investigation. So the principal called in said student during class time, which frightened the poor boy until Jinki himself had to be pulled away from class to calm him down. Once Taemin had calmed down, the principal kindly reminded him that he was his best friend’s grandson and that he was just concerned about his status in the school.
“Ah....! I almost forgot!” Taemin chirped up and beamed at the principal. “Sorry, Principal Kim, but I just had a lot of things to think about lately, and it involves your grandson...”
At this, both Jinki and the principal sat up in their seats, giving Taemin their undivided attention. “Well, go on, Taemin-ah,” the principal urged him slightly. “Tell me what’s going on with Key.”
Taemin pouted at the memory, staring off at a distance. “Well, Key hyung and Minho hyung were never on good terms since they met each other at this school, but it did throw everyone off when they announced that they were together.” At this information, Jinki nodded and the principal patted the youngest boy’s shoulder to go on. “Actually, they decided to make a truce and become a couple in school just so that all these girls would stop stalking Minho hyung and that Key hyung wouldn’t have to deal with the slutty girls who are always being nice to him just to get into his pants and wallet.” Jinki’s eyes widened when Taemin said ‘slutty’. “But slowly, I noticed how Key hyung would smile whenever Minho hyung would pick him up after dance class and even stay after the class with us so he could try dancing. He’s actually really good! And all Key hyung ever talks about is Minho hyung!”
The principal looked confused. “Then....why do you look so sad? What’s the problem in that if they’re starting to like each other?”
Taemin shook his head. “I think it’s only developing one-sided. Minho hyung had lately slept with Nichkhun hyung, who was supposed to be one of Minho hyung’s best friends, and now Key has been looking depressed....I don’t even know where he is....” he mumbled sadly.
Jinki blinked slowly in surprise and turned to look at the principal. The elderly man had an unreadable expression on his face.
“Lee Jinki.”
“Y-Yes, sir?”
“Go get me Choi Minho. Now.”
Fate could have never chosen a greater moment as Jinki scrambled up from his seat and stumbled three times before leaving the principal’s office.
“What happened that night, hyung?”
“Minho, I didn’t mean to - ”
“TELL ME!” Minho yelled and slammed his fist on Nichkhun’s locker door, startling the elder. “Because as far as I know, I still love Kibum, and I have no memory of what exactly happened that night except waking up beside you!”
Jinki froze in place as he entered the gym locker room quietly. He decided to hide between locker aisles and listened into the conversation.
Nichkhun smirked at Minho. “Love? Don’t make me laugh - this is high school. There’s nothing but lust when it comes to relationships.” He licked his lips and stepped dangerously close to Minho, who immediately backed off.
Minho looked at him in disbelief. “Nichkhun hyung, I told you myself that I was falling for him and that we really did confess to each other after a while. We really had a good thing going!”
“That’s not what you said last night at the bar. You kept going on and on about your problems with the diva - ”
“Wait, we were at the bar? …..was I drinking?”
There was a cold silence in the locker room and Jinki slowly pieced everything together before Minho could. He silently gasped and covered his mouth with his hand.
“Nichkhun, I asked you a question.” Minho dropped the formalities out of anger.
“Yes, alright?! I got you drunk!” Nichkhun spat. “I wanted to be the first one to tap that ass of yours! It was actually fun with you struggling beneath me, so calm down!”
Minho gaped at him for a moment. “.......you knew since we met that I can’t hold my liquor....”
“Yeah.”
“......that’s technical rape! I should sue you!”
“Yeah?! Well you seemed to like it that night!” Nichkhun grinned and drew closer to Minho, who unfortunately backed up into a dead corner of the locker room. “Now, don’t you want a repeat, since you don’t remember?”
Minho punched him square in the face, causing Nichkhun to fall back slightly. “Because of you, the one thing that gave me joy in my life is gone!” He shouted at him as he punched him in the stomach.
“Hey, you two were having problems anyway!”
“I was just upset that Key never told his parents or trusted them that he’s gay and that we’re dating! That was not a keyword for: Fuck my best friend!”
Pretty soon, Nichkhun started fighting back and the two were almost in a brawl if it weren’t for Jinki knocking Nichkhun out as soon as the latter had tried to pull Minho’s pants off during the fight.
Principal Kim listened carefully to Minho’s story and Jinki’s alibi from the locker room at the gym. He sighed and let the police escort Nichkhun out of the school, drawing attention from most of the student body. Right after Jinki left for the school choir practice, Minho decided to speak up more.
“......Principal Kim?”
Said man turned to look at Minho, who stared off at a distance. “Yes?”
“.......are Kibum’s parents really homophobic?”
The principal sighed and leaned against his own desk. “Well, yes and no. They’re not exactly comfortable with the idea that homosexuals can adapt to a family environment.”
“......sir, are you homophobic?”
“That’s like asking Kibum if he hates being in the kitchen.”
Both males chuckled at the mere thought.
“Minho-yah,” The principal began and smiled a bit. “If you really do love my grandson, then I support your relationship. Just be careful who you hang out with after a fight.” He warned the student.
Minho’s eyes widened (which scared the principal, really, because of how large his eyes were) and bowed 90 degrees. “Thank you, sir!”
Suddenly the door to the principal’s office was thrown open, causing the males inside to jump from where they were standing. A short boy ran in then glared at Minho once he spotted him. “You.” He growled.
“......Kim Jonghyun, what are you doing here?”
Said boy turned to the principal and flapped his arms at his sides like a bird who wants attention. “KIBUMMIE HASN’T BEEN IN ANY OF HIS CLASSES ALL DAY! HE EVEN MISSED DANCE CLASS! HE HAS NEVER MISSED ONE CLASS IN THAT DEPARTMENT!” He screeched.
Both Minho and Principal Kim tried clearing their ears quickly.
“Relax, Jonghyun. Get back to class while I bring Minho with me to search for Kibum. I have a feeling I know where my grandson is.”
“Kibum?”
Said boy turned around and smiled a bit, chuckling slightly. “You always know where to find me, grandpa.”
The principal chuckled, too, and sat beside his grandson on top of the roof. “Have you heard of the latest scandal?” He spoke nonchalantly.
Key’s eyes widened and turned to his grandfather again. This was the first time his grandfather had been into any kind of gossip. “Tell me!” He whined.
The old man meekly shrugged and stared off into the horizon in front of them. “Nichkhun Horvejkul got arrested as well as receiving a restraining order from Choi Minho.” He noticed how Key flinched at the mention of Minho’s name. “Apparently there was a witness of Nichkhun admitting he took advantage of a drunk minor and even made him drunk.”
Silence ensued on the rooftop for a moment until Key sighed shakily, putting his head on his hands. “I feel like an idiot somehow.” He mumbled.
Principal Kim chuckled and ruffled his grandson’s hair. “Do you miss him?”
“......yeah.”
“Do you love him...?”
Key blushed and nodded. “Yeah....”
“Would you take him back?”
At this, Key thought about it and shrugged. “He’s banned from alcohol if he ever comes back to me.” He groaned suddenly and stared at the sky. “IF is the keyword. I chased him away from our place with a chainsaw. I don’t think he’d want to cross paths with me, ever.”
“You sure about that?”
Key froze from where he was sitting. That familiar voice, of who was not his grandfather’s, came from behind him. He slowly turned around to find Minho smiling at him softly with a big bouquet of roses, singing a pop song about a wedding (as Principal Kim concluded).
The diva grumbled, “You cheeseball...” before grinning and running into his lover’s arms.
The principal laughed and shook his head. High school was a roller coaster ride to him. He managed a school full of prima donnas, jerky jocks, and young innocent love with a slice of cheese on top.
