"$10,000?!"
Minho nodded as Key continued to yell at... absolutely nothing. Amber looked irritated and worried at once - annoyed mostly because of Key's volume in his voice, and more concern towards Jonghyun. The man of the topic discussion was currently in his math class, learning probabilities and ratio numbers. The rest were inside the Loker Student Union at the food court*.
Amber's stomach growled all of a sudden, causing her friend and her boyfriend to stare at her. For once, Key stopped yelling in frustration and looked at his girlfriend with concern. "Boo, are you hungry? I'll get you something to eat, alright?" he cooed in English. It was such a sweet tone that Minho cringed a bit. He expected Amber to feel disgusted, as usual, but to his surprise she nodded and tiredly pointed to the Chinese take out diner near them.
Key smiled and kissed the top of Amber's head before walking over to where she pointed, with a wallet in hand. Minho gagged a bit, causing Amber to chuckle beside him. The tall man shook his head and smiled warily. "Anyways, are you going to the concert tonight, Amber? The choir from Nevada are going to sing acapella... and to be honest, I need to watch Onew hyung from tripping himself in front of guests."
The short-haired tomboy shook her head. "I'm hanging out with Henry. He's only going to be around for the week before going back to Boston."
Minho sighed. "I don't wanna be bored, dude!" He cried out in exasperation.
Just then, Key came over with Amber's take-out order and a phone in his free hand. "Ah, no worries, man. Jjong just texted me. He and Jay are going to that concert," he added. He gave Amber her order and grinned at Minho. "You won't be bored no more. Instead of hooking up with older chics, you can do your infamous 'cockblock' moves."
Minho grinned back and high-fived him while Amber dug into the Chinese food.
Jay seemed slightly irritated once he saw Minho deliberately sitting in between him and Jonghyun right before the concert started. "Dude, where's your date?" he grumbled out in English.
Minho smiled wickedly while watching Jonghyun carefully from the corner of his eye. The innocent 18 year old happily watched each choir member file into the concert hall, oblivious to the introduction of Minho's cockblocking. "Oh, I just wanted to watch my favorite friend from any danger, by any means necessary..." He spoke nonchalantly in a whisper.
The elder man frowned and sat up straight. "He came with me, so shouldn't he already be safe with me around?"
"I don't know," Minho shrugged, "Wanna bet?" He made sure to emphasize the word 'bet'.
Jay's eyes widened in shock. Oh fuck, he knows.
That was when Jonghyun noticed he wasn't sitting near Jay. He pouted and looked up at Minho with puppy eyes. "Minnie~ could you maybe switch seats with me, please~?" he pleaded cutely.
Both Minho and Jay's jaws were slacked open at Jonghyun's cute act. Jay blushed while the youngest boy sighed, giving into Jonghyun's plea. He reluctantly traded seats with his best friend and immediately texted Key.
Jay felt at ease once Jonghyun sat beside him. He noticed that when it comes to music, Jonghyun would act more confident and for once act like the cool guy that everybody loves so much. Once the choir onstage started singing acapella, both boys went straight to watching the performance. Minho put his phone away and watched the two carefully. Why isn't he putting the moves on him? he couldn't help but wonder.
Jonghyun took off his glasses and closed his eyes, smiling softly at the beautiful blend of voices. Jay noticed the movement from the corner of his eye and couldn't help but stare at him, a small smile on his face as well. Meanwhile, Minho was entranced by the solo performances on stage.
"He didn't put the moves on him?!" Key shrieked the next morning in the library. This time, on the 4th floor, almost everyone in the library shushed him and glared. And as usual, Key ignored them.
"Maybe he couldn't do it because you were Captain Obvious!"
Minho shrugged and nodded at someone approaching from the men's restroom. "Hyung's here. Let's talk outside where there's furniture for you to lay on, Key." Key immediately took advantage of the leisure time they had and ran outside. Minho apologized to everyone before following suit.
The 4th floor had a walkway that connects the new part of the library to the old part of the library. The walkway was deemed as a nice place to leisure and bask into the sun. Key relaxed quickly and sighed happily. Minho and Jonghyun sat on the other side, facing him, so they wouldn't have the sunlight glare at them completely.
Jonghyun pouted. "I can't believe I'm getting a C in Music Theory! I really need to raise my GPA...." He rambled a bit more about the scholarship he had to keep.
Key sat up a bit and coughed, already bored with his friend's rambling. "So... how was the concert, Jjong? Did you like it?"
The shortest man in the group nodded happily. "The blend was amazing! And the co-ed order of arrangement when they stand - they appeared so comfortable yet formal onstage!" He piped up.
"I'd have to agree with hyung. The bass stood out perfectly and the sopranos were wonderful."
"The best part wasa when they covered the old radio tunes!"
The three boys nearly jumped at the new voice and turned to find Jay smiling at them softly, waving at them in greeting. Minho & Key watched Jonghyun's face turn from shock to surprise, then to happy; like how a puppy saw his first Christmas. (They've seen Jonghyun's dog, Roo, do it once before.)
Before Jonghyun could get up to hug him, he was immediately tackled by a tall feminine-looking teen with long auburn-ish hair.
"Yah! Hyung~ don't forget tonight's tutoring!" Taemin exclaimed in joy.
Jay frowned deeply; similar to how Minho looked like at the moment. Key was too mesmerized by the young boy's beauty, just like Jonghyun. Taemin had feminist features on his face and body. If he wasn't so flat-chested and had no Adam's apple, Key would've been convinced that Taemin is a girl.
Jonghyun smiled brightly at Taemin. "You look very handsome, Taemin-sshi," he complimented. Upon hearing that, Taemin look startled. Key nearly fell off his seat, Minho's eyes widened (if that was even possible, in Key's opinion), and Jay's jaw flew open in disbelief.
The young boy shook his head and grinned. "You're the first person to actually tell me I'm handsome rather than pretty or beautiful. Thanks, hyung!" He chirped cutely, causing Jay to grit his teeth in anger. Once again, Key & Minho noticed the competition stares between the two, them at a clueless Jonghyun who simply sat there, smiling like an idiot.
The next day, Jay didn't have class, so he opted to join his friend, Taecyeon, to the barber shop. He watched his tall muscular buddy get a haircut, but then got bored, causing his eyes to wander around the place. His gaze stopped at a poster of hair-dying selection.
"Yo, Taec. Check this out - $10 a hair dye color."
Once the barber was done cutting, Taecyeon turned around and checked to see what Jay was looking at. "You know, Jay, you can dye your hair if you want," he suggested.
Jay grinned and turned to Taecyeon. "You think I'd look good in black?"
Taecyeon gave him a look that said 'Are-you-stupid' and sighed. "Jay, you're Asian. Of course it would look good on you - it's a natural color compared to your blonde fringe right now." He turned back around in his chair and grumbled at how dense his best friend can get.
"Oh. My. God."
Jonghyun gulped and turned around in a 360 motion, modeling for Key. "Do you like it?" he asked meekly.
"What the hell happened to the gradient blonde that I worked hard on your fucking dino-brained head three months ago?!"
The shorter man winced at the volume of his best friend's voice and tried to smile. "Taemin-sshi said he liked to see me in a lighter brown & auburn color for a more radical look, so he dyed my hair after tutoring was done at his place," he explained nervously, looking around the outdoor walkway of the library.
Oh hell no, that pretty boy has to go! Key thought with fuming rage, though he tried his best to hide it. He took another glance at Jonghyun and eyed his outfit. The latter wore black jeans, black buckled boots, a white long-sleeved loose shirt which was styled to show his shoulders, and gold & ivory jewelry.
In other words, he looked more fruity than Key, and Kibum Kim was known to be dressed exactly like a girl. At the moment, Key was wearing a simple, checkered shirt that he left unbuttoned over a plain white shirt with dark denim jeans. His shoes were of a Nike brand, the color resembling of Reese's Pieces* to Jonghyun.
"Hey, guys! How's it - oh."
Key turned around to find Jay in a new look - his hair was black and it got shorter. He, too, was dressed slightly different than how he normally dresses. Instead of jerseys and letterman jackets, with Jay looking like a jock, he was dressed in a simple black Pioneer shirt with slim fit skinny jeans and Nike blue sneakers. Key was very aware of his left arm, all covered up in tattoos, then his eyes trailed over to the other tattoos shown around the base of his neck.
Jay was surprised as Key glared at him and scowled. He glanced fleetingly at Jonghyun, and all the shorter man could do is give him an apologetic look, mouthing out, 'Key hates tattoos'. He started to blush as Jonghyun later winked and mouthed, 'You look good'.
