[FST] Suikoden III. Destroyers.

Jul 18, 2006 17:33

I'm on a Suikoden kick. I'm on a Destroyers kick. It is videogame month over at fst. Therefore, a Destroyers FST.

Please comment if you download.

The Destroyers, or Heresy and Revolution for Fun and Profit

The Suikoden series is one of those things that you can't really condense and still try to sound coherent or funny. This particular group is from the third installment of the series, and supposedly operate under the government of Holy Harmonia Catholic Papal States whut?, who is attempting to maneuver the different territories of the Grasslands to destroy each other so that it can sweep in and take over.

Since Suikoden games can't operate with some sort of betrayal, this particular group is out for themselves (some members more than others), and pretty much screwing with the minds of those that get in the way. And there is backstabbing. And more backstabbing.

So we have two emo-kid mages, an intellectual supremacist asshat, and a homicidal maniac that may or may not be a demon. And for some reason, I'm fond of them all.

The Covers

Stolen idea from a layout? Yes. Stolen idea from a layout. But I like the combination, damn it.

The Music

O Fortuna
O Fortune,
like the moon
you are changeable,
ever waxing
and waning;
hateful life
first oppresses
and then soothes
as fancy takes it...

Being screwed over by life and then changing your and other's fortunes on the next go-around on the wheel of fortune. Pretty much the day to day for the Destroyers.

A Place for My Head
I want to be in another place
I hate when you say you don’t understand
(You’ll see it's not meant to be)
I want to be in the energy, not with the enemy
A place for my head.

Luc. Wangsty and chock full of righteous anger and "I'm not going to be controlled by you!" Therefore, Luc.

Raise Thy Sword
Instrumental. Luc/The True Wind Rune's battle theme. Part of me wanted to have some sort of theme going with the "battle themes", but instead I did something that fit a bit better for the character. Besides, I needed some sort of a theme that had a wind-driven intrument in it.

Losing My Religion
Every whisper
Of every waking hour I'm
Choosing my confessions
Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt lost and blinded fool
Oh no I've said too much
I set it up

Besides the "Hur, hur, he's going against Harmonia" factor, the somewhat creepy stalker undertones of the song are good for his relationships with Sarah (though he might be more of the stalked) and Sasarai.

Eleanor Rigby
Eleanor Rigby, died in the church
and was buried along with her name
Nobody came
Father McKenzie, wiping the dirt
from his hands as he walks from the grave
No one was saved.

Sarah's wrapped up with Luc, and it's sweet in a bit of a psychotic fangirl sort of way. Before her involvement, though, she was pretty much the pet of Harmonia, all alone. And cue the emo.

Find Your Way
Instrumental. Sarah's battle theme. There had to be something to reflect her water/ice powers and so this. I guess it isn't a "battle theme" per se, but I guess if you're facing her alone, something along these lines would play.

Jumper
I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend,
You could cut ties with all the ties,
That you've been living in,
And if you do not want to see me again,
I would understand,
I would understand.

I can't seem to separate Sarah from Luc. She doesn't seem to want to separate herself from him, either. So, something rather angsty for their final scene, where they decide to face the end together. Kind of sweet, if twisted, as is their relationship.

Royal Palace Consultation
Instrumental. Snotty, yet somehow attractive. Yeah, a personal interpretation of Albert. It sounds like something you'd hear on NPR when someone starts playing it on the radio to show off the size of their intellicock. So, I guess this would be the superficial aspect of Albert.

Brainwashing
Instrumental. No battle theme for Albert, since he's a total wuss more the type to let the cannon fodder fight for him a strategist. So, something for him to brood and plan and plot by. The Vagrant Story soundtrack is good for that.

One Man Army
Tightly hold your hand
Take a deep breath, give them the finger
Are you worried
That your thoughts are not quite clear?

When you think of this song, maybe Yuber's the first to come to mind, since, hey, he's the tank. But there's something there about control that's more along Albert's line. And since Albert's the bastard that, what, triple crosses everyone to live to plot another day, he's got this song.

Fire Water Burn
Yeah I'm hung like planet Pluto, hard to see with the naked eye,
But if I crashed into Uranus I would stick it where the sun don't shine,
Cause I'm kind of like Han Solo, always stroking my own wookie.
I'm the root of all that's evil, yeah, but you can call me cookie.

A theme for Yuber. Mainly because of the bored tones of voice while the shit goes down. Manga-wise, when Yuber isn't out killing something, he's talking about killing something, with a sort of "Been there, done that, killed the guy with the teeshirt" vibe.

The Midnight Carnival
Instrumental. Yuber's battle theme. Or, at least it would be in a better world. There are several versions of this song, and all are somewhat Yuber-like, but this one sounds, well, more masculine than the live version, even if the live version sounds fiercer.

Closer
You can have my isolation,
You can have the hate that it brings.
You can have my absence of faith,
You can have my everything.

A song between Yuber and his one true love lust, Albert chaos. It also provides the title for the FST.

Bonus: It's the End of the World as We Know It

World serves its own needs, listen to your heart bleed
Dummy with the rapture and the revered and the right, right.
You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, bright light, feeling pretty psyched.

Well, that's why they're called the Destroyers. Any good RPG villian wants to destroy the world.
