2007

Still in India. Still on dialup.

Went to Chennai a few days ago to see my dad's parents. Saw my cousin Aditya (Babloo to us) for the first time in 16 years. He's a character. Saw my great grandfather again, but only for like 2 hours. I love that man; he is so cool. He's either 89 or 90 right now. I wish I could take pictures of him that capture him truly. He has this smile that just illuminates him, but can't be caught on film. I saw some other distant relatives (wives and husbands of my grandmother's siblings).

Came back to Hyderabad today (well, yesterday by the time this thing gets posted) on New Year's Day.

It hasn't been a good start to the new year (traveling, crying, fighting, getting scars from nailmarks on my wrist), but frankly, I don't really give a shit. On December 31, I went to bed before midnight, and I didn't care to sit up and count the seconds till 2006 goes away. I have given up my naive excitement for the next year, and I have given up toasting and really hoping that the next year will be better. In years past I have raised imaginary glasses of champagne. This year, I offer no such toast. This year it's more a matter of hoping to get out of 2007 unscathed.
