~
Although their planned time to meet was 10:00am, Mika was already standing at their meeting spot at 9:30am. He couldn’t understand why he was so nervous. He wasn’t normally like this. Usually when he met up with his best friend Hyunmin, he’d end up being half an hour late because he’d wake up late. However this morning, Mika was already out of bed by 8:00am (which is considered early for Mika on a weekend) and he even spent half an hour on deciding what to wear. Wow and it’s not even a date ... or is it O.O

As Mika stood there pondering on his thoughts he didn’t even realize Karam had come up in front of him until he saw a hand waving in front of his face repeatedly. Snapping out of it Mika looked in front of him and saw that the hand belonged to Karam who had a worried look on his face, his brown puppy eyes widening in concern. Gosh those eyes never fail to turn me into a pile of mush every time I look into them

“Mika-hyung, Mika-hyung - are you okay?” Karam asked worriedly. Mika smiled back at his angel he was too cute! “I’m okay, sorry I was just lost in my own thoughts before. Oh have you eaten breakfast yet Karam?”

Karam shook his head in reply. “Hmm I know of a good store not too far away that has the best beef and rice dishes ever. Want to go try?”

“Sure,” replied Karam. “The only Korean foods I’ve had in the states were just either my parent’s cooking or a Korean restaurant that took half an hour by car to get there. I’m curious to see what Korean food tastes like here.”

Mika smiled (again! He’s been smiling every time Karam says something - but he can’t help it, Karam’s so cute!). “Okays let’s start walking then!” As they walked the short walk to the food shop, Mika couldn’t help but spazz over Karam’s cuteness. He was wearing a pair of white jeans that seemed to cling to his legs really well along with a purple hoodie and a backpack that had all sorts of accessories hanging from it (most of them included small multi coloured teddy bears). To think that this boy is only one year younger than him, ahh too cute!

The walk only took ten minutes and soon they were seated in a table in the corner of the shop. Since Karam wasn’t too familiar with the dishes, Mika helped him decide on which would be the best. While waiting for their meals to arrive, Mika decided to start up a conversation.

“So Karam, where would you like to go today?”

“Hmm ...” Karam tapped his index finger to his lips again just like yesterday thinking hard. Hmm Karam must have a habit of doing that often “Ooooh I know,” Karam said bringing Mika back to reality. “I want to go to a bookstore! Mika-hyung, do you know any good bookstores around here? I love to read! I used to always go to the local bookstores back in the states; it was only like a ten minute walk away from where I lived!”

“Sure Karam, I know of a good one but we’ll need to take the train though. Its okay, I know my way around so we definitely won’t get lost! Just count on me!” Mika replied back.

“Oh by the way Karam, I’ve noticed that even though you’ve been living in the states, your Korean is pretty good. Wouldn’t you have spoken more English than Korean?” This was something that Mika had been curious about since he’d met Karam. He could tell there was a slight accent to Karam’s speech, but other than that, Karam was very familiar with his language.

“Yea that’s what my friends from my class asked me too. I speak Korean to my parents and relatives all the time over there. My parents force me to speak Korean around them because they said if I don’t, then I will forget my native language - which is true, if it wasn’t for them, I would’ve come back to Korea and not known how to communicate with everyone here. They also made me take Korean classes on the weekend to help me with my reading and writing. I’m so grateful to them for pushing me to take all those classes. If it weren’t for those lessons, I would’ve been in so much trouble trying to read all those textbooks and notes from school.”

“Oohh I see,” replied Mika. “Yea so many kids in school always complain about how they hate the extra tutoring on the weekends, but in the long run it’s actually good for them. They don’t realize how lucky they are to have their parents caring so much for them.” At this Mika sighed and had a distant look on his face.

Karam noticed the change in Mika’s mood and wondered if he should push the topic more. It wouldn’t hurt to ask right? So Karam plucked up his courage and asked, “Mika-hyung, what’s the matter? I’m sure your parents also care for you too right?”

Mika sighed again and looked back to face Karam. “My parents are divorced. My mum cheated on my dad when I was 5 and since then, it’s just been me and my dad. But because of work purposes, my dad is always away from home.” Mika paused his story telling and saw that Karam was looking down and fidgeting with the strings on his hoodie. Mika smiled and tilted Karam’s head up with the tips of his fingers under his chin. “It’s okay though, I know he really loves me. Every time he comes back from his trips, he always brings back a souvenir of some sort.”

“I-I’m sorry Mika-hyung, I shouldn’t have asked.” Karam said in apology as he tried lowering his head down again. Mika kept his fingers underneath Karam’s chin though preventing the action. “It’s okay silly, nothing to get all teary-eyed about. Everything’s fine now. I don’t even hate my mum anymore. Rather I’m sometimes thankful to her. It’s because of her that me and my dad’s bond have grown closer. Come on, how often do you hear a father buying souvenirs for his 17 year old son every time he goes away?” At the last sentence, Karam couldn’t help but smile, Mika did have a point there.

Just then, their food arrived so they ceased talking for awhile and focused on eating. Karam commented that the food was better than the food from the Korean restaurant from the states, to which Mika just replied with, “Of course, I told you this was a good place!”

After they finished eating, Mika paid the bill and they went off in search of the closest train station. Although it was the weekend, the train station was still packed with lots of people; although instead of being packed with men in business suits and women in high heels rushing off to work, it was filled with teenagers like themselves or young couples that were scattered around. Looking at the train times, Mika saw that the next train was in two minutes. Not wanting to wait around for another 20 minutes for the next train, Mika quickly paid for the train tickets, grabbed hold of Karam’s hand and then ran for the platform that they needed to be on. Karam just bounded along happily behind Mika, enjoying the feel of excitement.

When they arrived at the platform both were slightly out of breath, it really wasn’t easy running around in a crowded station dodging between people. Mika looked over at Karam and saw the boy’s hair was a bit mussed up but his eyes were sparkling from the thrill of running around. The train arrived seconds later and Mika was glad he was a fast sprinter. Still holding onto Karam’s hand, Mika led him onto the train. However all the seats were occupied so they had to stand up. As more people started coming on behind them, Mika quickly manoeuvred Karam into a corner and stood in front of him so he wouldn’t get squished.

There were four stops before they would arrive at their destination. As the train stopped at the second station, more people were getting on than there were getting off. Suddenly somebody pushed into Mika causing him come face to face with Karam, their faces only inches apart. Karam blushed a bright red and tried to hide it by looking down. Mika tried to take a step back, but the train was so crowded and packed that he was forced to stay in close position to Karam. Mika swore his heart was beating so hard that Karam must be able to feel it as their bodies were practically touching each other.

Standing this close to Karam, Mika was able to see clearly every detail of Karam’s face. He skin looked so smooth, his features so perfectly defined and his hair smelled of strawberries. Seeing that Karam’s hair was still messy from their mad dash before, Mika reached up and started fixing Karam’s hair for him. Karam just kept his eyes lowered and mumbled a ‘thanks’ all the while trying hard to not to stare at Mika’s pale collarbones that were standing out against his choice of attire which was a black long sleeved off shoulder top with a black tank top underneath.

As they arrived at the third station, the train braked rather hard causing everyone to fall forward in the process. In Mika and Karam’s case, the brake caused Karam to fall forward into Mika, who in turn quickly wrapped an arm around Karam, using the other arm to hold onto the pole beside him for support. “You okay?” Mika asked as he looked down at Karam whose cheeks were now tinted with a rosy pink.

“Y-yeah I’m okay.” Karam replied as he shifted a bit in Mika’s embrace. As more people entered the train yet again, Mika was forced to keep a firm grip around Karam’s waist as they were pushed against the wall behind Karam. Only one more stop to go Mika thought to himself as his felt his heart about ready to burst. He wasn’t sure why he was feeling this way, he knew he wasn’t interested in girls ever since he entered high school, but this was the first time he’d ever felt this way towards another guy. It actually felt ... nice.
