Part 1 - Three Years Ago …
Mika grimaced as he dodged through the busy streets of Seoul. He had been stupid enough to assume his target was alone. Although he’d completed his mission and killed the target, he now had three of the man’s bodyguards hot on his heels.
He’d also underestimated his target’s fighting abilities. His grip over his left shoulder blade tightened as he tried to stop the wound from bleeding. He was lucky that he was wearing a black jacket so the blood wasn’t too visible … yet.
Lost in his own thoughts, Mika rounded the corner of the street carelessly without paying any attention and let out a breath of air as he ran into a man who looked to be in his 20’s.
Mika frowned and immediately stepped around the younger man, eager to continue his escape. He just needed to make a few more detours in the streets before he could return to his apartment to make sure they wouldn’t discover where he lived.
“Hey,” the younger man behind him said reaching out a hand to grab Mika’s shoulder.
Unfortunately, he chose to grip Mika’s wounded shoulder and Mika winced in pain snapping his shoulder forward to dislodge the contact.
However it was too late. The younger man’s hand came back with blood at his palm and fingertips. His mouth fell open and Mika quickly walked away, hoping to lose the younger man while he was still in shock and surprise.
He didn’t get very far when he heard soft yet quick footsteps coming in his direction. Mika ignored it and quickened his steps. He didn’t need a tag-along body to add to the excitement of losing three men after his head.
“Hey, hey you!” the younger man shouted behind him. Mika gritted his teeth and started running, ignoring the people who were looking in his direction. He heard the younger man pick up his pace too and Mika grunted increasing his own in return.
Running was bad since it meant he would probably end up opening his wound more.
He heard the other man shouting after him and Mika knew it wasn’t too long before they would both attract enough attention that he’d be found by the three bodyguards.
Ducking into a narrow alleyway, Mika hid behind what looked to be an abandoned bookshelf and leaned against the wall, waiting for the other man to catch up. Not too long after, he heard the hurried sounds of footsteps slow down to a walk as the younger man stepped into the alleyway.
Mika counted to ten, each second bringing the other man closer and closer to where he stood. At the last second, Mika stepped out, gripped the front of the man’s shirt and slammed him into the wall behind him.
“Stop. Following. Me,” Mika said between gritted teeth, his sapphire eyes boring into the terrified doe eyes belonging to the younger man.
The younger man looked like he would cry for a moment, but then he stood up straighter, despite being in the weaker position.
“Your shoulder is wounded,” he said calmly and Mika had to praise him for being able to act so composed in such a situation.
“It’s none of your business,” Mika replied, tightening his grip and pushing the younger man further into the wall.
“I-I’m studying to be a nurse and it is my responsibility to tend to anyone who is injured, whether they are a child, adult, or an elderly,” the younger man shot back.
Mika huffed in frustration. He shouldn’t have been so careless to have run into this stranger.
“Look, things aren’t quite as simple as they look. I’m not your everyday ‘adult’ that’s accidentally scratched his arm on a tree branch. I could be a criminal or even a drug dealer, so if you don’t stop following me, you will risk your life.”
The younger man’s eyes hardened at the challenge. “I don’t care who you are, if you’re injured I will do my best to help you.”
Mika growled and was about to just knock the younger man unconscious and make a run for it when he heard familiar voices from just around the corner.
“Shit,” he whispered tugging the younger man with him to hide behind the bookshelf.
“What are you d-” Mika immediately put his hand over the younger man’s mouth, motioning for him to be silent.
The younger man frowned but kept quiet, curious as to what was going on.
Mika held his breath as he heard footsteps come into the alleyway. Meeting the younger man’s gaze, Mika bit his lip not knowing what to do all of a sudden. If he was by himself, he could have easily run away or even taken care of these men.
Unfortunately he wasn’t alone, and even though he’d just met this hard-headed stranger, he didn’t want him to be injured. As the sounds of footsteps neared, Mika gritted his teeth and slid his hand round to his hip where he kept his gun hidden. He would deal with the three men quickly and hope that the younger man would not pass out from the violence.
However, before he could pull out the gun, the younger man shoved him against the bookshelf, cornering him in between the bookshelf and wall.
Before Mika could even question what he was doing, soft lips descended upon his and Mika’s eyes widened in surprise. The younger man met his gaze and, having seemed to have grasped hold of the dangerous situation at hand motioned for Mika to go along with it before shutting his eyes and pushing forward.
Mika put a hand on the other man’s shoulder, about to push him away when he heard the footsteps come even closer. It was already too late to prepare for an assault.
Mika sighed and shut his eyes, praying that this plan of the younger man’s was going to work. Wrapping his right arm around the younger man’s waist since his left arm was squished between the side of the bookshelf and his body, Mika was surprised to feel muscles through the thin t-shirt since on the outside the younger man had looked a bit on the skinnier and fragile side.
Deciding to make things more realistic, Mika pulled the younger man closer, parting his lips and swiping his tongue across the other’s lower lip.
The younger man let out a moan and Mika’s body froze. The footsteps came to a stop and Mika tightened his hold around the younger man’s waist.
Time froze for about a millisecond and then the younger man was pushing forward again and when Mika felt the other’s tongue probing at his lips, Mika parted them involuntarily, a low moan sounding from the bottom of his throat.
One hand rested on his shoulder while the other slid into his hair, tugging at the roots pulling their heads closer to deepen the kiss. As their tongues tangled and breaths mingled, Mika heard the footsteps start and then pause followed by a gasp.
He heard two intakes of breaths while the bodyguard who he assumed had gasped before uttered an obscenity under his breath. Mika tried to ignore the rapid heartbeats coming from the younger man he was currently kissing and slipped his hand under the shirt to caress the skin underneath.
The younger man let out another moan and Mika smirked into the kiss as he heard mismatched footsteps start as the bodyguards started walking away hurriedly. When their footsteps eventually faded away, Mika relaxed his body against the wall, unaware that he had been tense the whole time.
Just to be sure though, Mika kept up the pretence for a few more minutes. Running his tongue lazily along the younger man’s lower lip, Mika placed a few more kisses against the other’s parted lips before pulling back.
“They’re gone,” he said, a slow grin forming on his face.
The younger man’s eyes snapped open and he quickly stepped back, mind finally registering what he’d just done. He pressed a finger up to his lips and Mika watched as a slow blush started creeping up on those pale cheeks.
As he moved away from the wall, Mika winced and gripped his shoulder as the pain returned.
This bought the younger man back to his senses and he gasped moving forward, reaching his hand out to touch the wound. Mika grunted and stepped away. Now that the bodyguards were ahead of him, Mika could probably skip doing the detours and head back to his apartment directly.
“Please let me tend to it,” the younger man pleaded.
Mika ignored him and started walking away. Unfortunately, the younger man was a lot more stubborn than he thought and kept following him regardless of his threats to hurt him.
Mika was tired and he felt his body starting to weaken from the loss of blood. He hurried his steps, eager to head home but aware that the younger man was never too far away.
When he was just one block away from the apartment complex, Mika decided to take a shortcut and cut through some trees in the park, avoiding the main area with all the families. Stepping out onto the other side, Mika swayed on his feet, blinking his eyes as they started to cloud up.
Shaking his head, Mika started to cross the road only to be pulled back by two strong arms just as a car drove past in front of him.
“Don’t you know it’s dangerous to cross the road before looking both ways to see if there are any cars?” the younger man’s voice sliced through the haze in his brain.
Mika tried to glare at the man but his eyes clouded up again and he unconsciously sagged against the younger man’s body.
“Stop being so stubborn,” the younger man chided. Draping Mika’s good arm around his shoulders, the younger man straightened their bodies putting an arm around Mika’s waist.
“Where do you live? I’m assuming you don’t want to go to the hospital right?”
Mika nodded and would’ve praised the younger man for his intelligence if he wasn’t slowly slipping into unconsciousness.
He whispered his address and the younger man nodded. He’d already come this far. If it turned out this man was just another person sent to kill him, well it’d just be his bad luck.
“So what’s your name? I’m Karam.”
“Mika,” he replied without a thought. It didn’t even occur to him to lie about his name.
After crossing the road and walking for another five minutes they finally arrived at the complex, walking through the automatic doors of the entrance and heading to the elevators.
Once the elevator doors slid shut and Karam had punched in the level number, Mika shut his eyes and sagged against the other’s body.
“Are you okay?” Karam asked.
“Fine,” Mika replied weakly.
The lift dinged signalling their arrival at the level. Stepping away from the wall, Karam half dragged, half assisted Mika out into the corridor.
“Do you have enough energy to punch in the code to get inside?” Karam asked as he tried to keep the other man upright when they stood in front of the door to Mika’s apartment.
Mika grunted and reached a hand out to enter the code not caring if Karam could see. Once he was done, Karam opened the door with difficulty as he tried to juggle between pushing the door open and holding the older man up.
They stumbled into the apartment and Karam steadied Mika before shutting the door behind them.
He looked around the living room and saw it was surprisingly clean. A white sofa sat in the middle with a coffee table in front and a TV against the wall in front of it. There was a bookshelf under the large windowsill and the wall behind the sofa was bare.
He looked to Mika and asked, “Did you want to go to your bedroom?”
Mika shook his head weakly and gestured to the couch. Karam nodded and guided him over to the couch. He sat him down and took a seat beside him.
Taking his backpack off, Karam unzipped it and took out a first aid kit he kept in there and placed it on the coffee table.
“Do you have any rags or towels I can use to clean the wound?”
Mika breathed in deeply and said, “In the bathroom, second door on the right.”
Karam nodded and got up heading to the hallway, opening the door as directed.
The bathroom was small, just an average sized shower stall and a sink next to it. He opened the cabinet opposite the sink and found a towel and washcloth before returning back to the older man.
As he passed by the kitchen, Karam wet the washcloth first.
Taking a seat beside Mika, Karam dumped the stuff on the coffee table.
“I’ll help you out of your jacket first,” he explained and Mika nodded his head.
Slipping the jacket off his good arm first, Karam then eased it off his left shoulder, face scrunching up at the sound of the blood squelching.
Not wanting to dirty the floor or the couch, Karam folded the jacket up and placed it on the coffee table. Grabbing the wet washcloth, Karam cleaned off the blood as best he could. He went back to the kitchen to rinse it out before going back and repeating the process again.
When all the blood had been cleaned off, Karam frowned as he stared at the wound on Mika’s shoulder.
Mika glared at him in question.
Karam pursed his lips and returned the older man’s gaze.
“I need to dress up your wound. But to do that, I need you to take your tank top off.”
Mika huffed and smiled, baring his teeth. “Is that all?”
Karam who was mesmerized by that smile, quickly nodded his head.
“Just cut it up,” Mika said gesturing to the scissors in the first aid kit.
Karam’s mouth fell open but he quickly shut it again and nodded.
Mika leant back on the couch a bit and Karam grabbed the scissors with one hand and the hem of his tank top with the other. He cut up the middle of the top and slid it off the right shoulder first before working on the left.
Seeing more blood come out from the wound, Karam used the now shredded tank top to wipe it off before tossing it aside.
Karam started applying the necessary medication to the wound before dressing it up, wrapping the dressing around his shoulder and diagonally to his waist to secure it.
When he was finally done, Karam grabbed all the dirty and ruined cloths taking them into the bathroom. The ruined ones he threw in the bin there, but the towel and washcloth, Karam placed on a tray that was beside the sink.
He wasn’t sure if Mika still wanted the jacket or not so he just placed that on a rack to the right.
Walking back out into the living room, Karam took a seat beside Mika who was leaning back on the couch, head resting on the headrest.
Mika opened his eyes weakly as he felt the couch dip from Karam’s weight.
“Thank you,” he whispered lightly before shutting his eyes again as sleep clouded his mind.
Karam just watched as Mika’s body slowly relaxed before saying, “You’re welcome.”
