I knew there was a good reason not to use Facebook

Friends have been pointing out that there's a Facebook account with my name on it. One I didn't create. I can't see what's there because it's not my account. And they can't because it's locked down.

I wasn't sure if I should be concerned or not, but there is a chance of identity fraud so I decided to contact the Facebook people. There didn't seem to be anything on the site that allowed me to do that without first opening an account. Eventually I found an enquiry form that appeared to be different. It asked for an email address so I used one of my spare ones that I hardly ever use.

The response I got was a message requesting I use the email address associated with my account and try again. So I'm guessing there is no way to contact Facebook without opening an account.

But what was more interesting was the spam I received on the email address I'd used. Looks like Facebook's privacy policy or security isn't very good.

In the meantime one of my tired, shrivelled memory cells perked up and reminded me that my publisher had said something about Facebook and MySpace a few months back. Perhaps something like creating an account so nobody else could pretend to be me? I can't remember. I'm still searching for the email, and I've sent off a query to them.
