Christmas Eve
I woke up the first time at 9…and pushed the snooze button on my alarm 10 times making it 10:15 when I got up. My Dad was preparing our Christmas dinner and needed some help. For the first time in my life I make coffee for myself and begin the cooking. First I made some Creole Seasoning. Then the special mayonnaise for the tartare we are making. Then I peeled shrimp. Then I had to write a Christmas letter to get in the mail. It’s kinda sad that it was Christmas Eve and I mailed a letter across the country to NC. So I wrote Kate’s letter and went to the post office and mailed it. I doubt the mail went out today but it’s all good. At least it’s one Christmas letter down…3 to go *sigh.* Around 4 my brother Jeff showed up from Sacramento and about an hour later we went to the children’s mass at St. A’s.
We were only able to get seats in the very back but at least we got seats. Tons of people had to stand which must have sucked because it wasn’t the best mass. I mean, it was okay but not as good as other years. After the mass I saw Maria who ran to me and gave me a hug and asked me, “How’s college?!...How’s chocolate?!” I told her I’d be in town for a couple weeks and, “You’re people can talk to my people and we’ll do lunch.” I’m not sure whether she took this literally or not but I don’t think she cares as long as she gets chocolate…*sigh*…a nice girl that Maria.
Then we did something we haven’t done for many years and that is…not have our Christmas Eve dinner at Manuel’s…who is, of course, our head vineyard worker (along with Jon). I very much missed the traditionally made Carnita’s, salsa, and tortillas. It was too bad. So we spent Christmas Eve at my Mom’s house and had many delectable appetizers instead, which was fine too, but it was a change. After several hours of munching I drove back to my Dad’s house with Jeff and we watched Better Off Dead with John Cusack….which is, I have to say, one of my favorite movies of all time…soo random and soo hilarious. It really does get better every time! After the movie I went into my room and started typing this up on my keyboard and I am leaving now…goodbye! Merry Christmas! Cheers!
