Section II: *THE CHARACTER*
1. Fandom: Gintama
2. Character Name: Kagura
3a. Background/History Link: wiki article ; manga @ onemanga ; an old app... copypaste much?
3b. Conscripted Background: -na-
4. Point in Canon: after episode 150
5. Personality:
There are two sides to how Kagura views herself. First of all, she views herself as someone superior to everybody else. This view isn’t unjustified: reaction to sunlight aside, humans are much weaker compared to Yato clansmen. She is the most physically strong character in Gintama’s main cast, with her super strength, her regenerative abilities and how she never catches a cold. And Kagura will remind everyone about this, lording over everybody with constant physical and verbal abuse. She is, after all, the self-proclaimed Queen of Kabukichou.

This side, however, might just be a cover. How she always has to assert her strength might be a way for her to hide how much she hates being considered weak. This might also be a result of being raised as a Yato. For a Yato clansman, weakness can easily lead to death. The Yato almost went extinct not because they were weak against other races but because their violent instincts causes them to fight one another. She was exposed to this violence when her brother and father tried to kill each other. Had the two parties been weaker than they were, one of them could really have died. There might be some guilt on her part on how she was not able to stop them before her father lost and arm and her brother got himself killed. And she may not realize or acknowledge the fact that things would have gotten worse had she not been there. Either way, she knew that weakness was her enemy. She decided that she should be strong enough to resist the violent tendencies of her clan so that she would not suffer the same fate as her family. For her, strength meant being powerful while remaining in control. And most of all, strength meant being unhurt.

And so she built this protective shell, playing the role of a bully to keep others away. The less she cared about other people, the less hurt she’ll be when they get hurt. Fortunately or unfortunately, Kagura can not help but be kind and gullible. She will help when there is trouble, she really does care when the people around her a hurt. And somewhere in her innocent yet jaded heart, she would like to believe that there are people who care back, that she isn’t living in a dog-eat-dog, survival of the fittest kind of world.

As far as intelligence is concerned though, Kagura is a bit lacking. For example, if you hang a banana from the ceiling and put a box on the floor that's just the right height to stand on to reach the banana, a monkey might get the right idea. Kagura, on the other hand, will probably break the walls until the ceiling falls down so she could grab the banana before it gets squished. Common sense isn't a common thing to her, her thought process is so simple that it hurts. This sometimes lead to some pretty blunt (and sometimes helpful) insights, but mostly leads to other people feeling their brain hurt. She has no formal education and tends to learn from the people around her, quoting her mother and Gintoki from time to time. While she may be a glutton and can be extremely greedy, her simpleness makes it so that she's easily amused and satiated by the most mundane things.

By the way, don't make her hold a baby. I don't think she understands the basics of human life yet.

6. Class: Harrier
7. Abilities:

Being a member of the Yato clan, Kagura has the following abilities...

Fist Fighting
Trained fighters since their youth, Yato are skilled with fist fighting. Their style is a mishmash of kung-fu moves, following no apparent style.

Marksmanship
The umbrellas that they bring along with them not only shield them from the sun, they also shoot bullets as well. Kagura's umbrella doubles as a machine gun/rifle and with a few upgrades, as a laser gun. The umbrella is also sturdy and can be used for (more often than not) hitting people and as a shield. Kagura doesn't possess exceptionally good aim (she's more power oriented than accuracy oriented) but she can use firearms.

Super strength
What makes a Yato so fearsome, other than their innate love for violence, would be their super strength. The exact figure of how much stronger they are than your average human is unknown, but Kagura can toss a boulder thrice her size (and possibly five times her weight) without much effort.

Healing
Not to be confused with the ability to heal others. Members of the Yato clan have their wounds heal a lot quicker than humans. For example, gunshot wounds would only take three minutes to heal. Broken bones? A day or two.

"Berserk Mode"
This probably applies specifically to Kagura and not the Yato as a whole, but she has been suppressing her instinct to fight so much that it can all be triggered by sudden extremely stressful situations. Kagura's power level do not change in any way, she's just more open to using it and therefore would have no qualms against hitting and possibly killing anything that comes her way.

Not really an ability
The Yato can't really stay under direct sunlight for too long. They burn up like vampires!. That's why they always have an umbrella with them.

Since the first two are trained abilities, I'm assuming that she could keep them. The so-called Berserk Mode is more psychological than magical/genetic so I think I could keep that too. Would love to keep her natural aversion against sunlight. I'd love to keep super strength and healing too, but would like to ask about the specific extent on how I should limit this if it should be limited.

For example, with healing, a week to heal a broken bone and a day to heal a bullet wound? Is that limit fine or should I limit it more?

8. Preferred Army: Ex Favila
9. Preferred Position: soldier
10. Non-Military Job: free-loading forever

Section III: *SAMPLES*
1. First-person Sample:
Oi, is it time for dinner yet? Now that the horrible training's over, is it time for dinner yet? Not that I'm complaining about the training (which was horrible) but is it time for dinner yet? Come on, there better be food in this place! Lots of it! Because the training was horrible.

But I'm not complaining.

2. Third-person Sample:
This is my final quiz.

Kagura chewed on her sukonbu loudly, remembering the words of her brother’s second-in-command. Why the man chose to save her and Shinpachi was something she couldn’t understand. What confused her more is why such a man was working with her brother. He babbled until forever about her brother, about their blood, about their nature. It seemed like he was trying to teach her something, something very stupid. Did he actually think that she would be willing to join him and her idiot of a brother?

She wasn’t stupid. She wasn’t like him.

I told you, didn’t I? I hate cannibalism.

Those were his last words before he fell, leaving her with Shinpachi. They were both in no condition to fight after that. Her brother, whom she swore to defeat after her fight with that man, chose to pay more attention to Gintoki. He watched him fight from the sidelines, wearing that condescending smile of his. When the battle for Yoshiwara’s sun was won, it was Gintoki he promised to come back for. It was his defeat that his brother wanted, ignoring her completely.

And she knew why. She was weak. She lost to that man, she lost to herself and she almost lost Shinpachi. Not that she cared about the boy, why the hell should she care? But it would be pathetic for him to be killed by the same person he selflessly (and stupidly) swore to protect. And for her brother, weak people weren’t worth anything. They were just a waste of time and space. His brother was blood-thirsty, yes, but he chose his opponents. He liked them strong, challenging at least.

So why did he choose a human? Their kind was stronger than theirs. The only advantage humans had against the Yato was that they could stand freely under the sky. Was that it? The sky? His father chose to travel to different planets, protecting the skies from vicious aliens. Her brother chose to travel the skies too, but to conquer instead of protect. Housen, that smelly old man from Yoshiwara, while protecting himself from the sky was way too obsessed with this woman he called his sun. And here she was, living with the man who risked his life to bring back the sky to a place that wasn’t supposed to concern them at all.

We are birds of prey, her father once said. This is not your nest, Kagura.

Kagura had never felt so weak and so confused in her entire life. And she knew what she had to do. Like the brave young heroes in Shounen Jump, Kagura will train until she got over nine thousand, or at least until the next plot twist. She left a note on her room telling Gintoki that she was off to have her on training arc, but knowing the man, he probably wouldn’t even check on it. He’d be lying on the couch with the latest issue of Shounen Jump on his face, snoring.

So she went to the zoo, demanding that they let her fight their bears. Instead she was faced by a certain sadist from the Shinsengumi, trying to arrest her for some made-up crime like “obstructing the peace” and “scaring the bears with your monstrousness”. It was probably just a stupid excuse to tie her up somewhere because he’s a creepy pervert. They fought, with their guns, their swords/umbrellas and their fists, destroying the bear cage in the process. She was about to win too, but the boy had a call from his superiors to look into another case. He left, commenting about how he had actually had a job and had no time to fight with little girls. He also left her to take care of the escaped bear, which was peacefully playing with a nearby butterfly. She tossed the bear back into its cage and threw a huge rock in front of the hole he escaped from. She’ll get him for this someday.

Yours is an attack to defeat...

Again with the words of his brother’s lackey. For someone who lost to her instinct in the middle of the battle, Kagura regretted how she remembered a huge part of his speech. In that state, she knew she was winning. He was much stronger than the sadist, so she knew she could defeat him too.

And this is an attack to kill.

If she had attacked him the same way she attacked her fellow Yato... if she attacked to kill...

Kagura rubbed the bruise on her cheek and shook her head. No, she was not giving that bastard the satisfaction of being fought with her full power, not when she knew he was holding back too. And she hated him, so she didn’t want to kill him. Idiots like him should suffer.

Weaklings like you have no place with us.

She’d show her brother who’s weak. She didn’t know how, but she’d show him when she met him again. She’d be stronger then. She fought a sadist and a bear and that old lady who almost bought the last pack of suko-

Kagura’s stomach growled. She found herself near the park, and saw that middle-aged bum with the expensive sunglasses sitting on one of the benches. Beside him was a paper bag filled with bread. She sat next to him, eyeing the bread hungrily.

“Go ahead,” the man said. “You can take o--"

All his bread was gone before he could even finish his sentence. Kagura wiped the crumbs off her face with his sleeve, without even attempting to hide what she just did.

“Ah! That was supposed to last me until tomorrow!” The man faked a laugh and popped a cigarette in his mouth. “Oh well, you get used to being hungry after a while. What’s wrong, Kagura-chan? Got into another fight?”

“I was training,” Kagura answered.

“Training? For what?”

“To be stronger.”

“Stronger?” The man lit his cigarette and took a puff. “You’re already pretty strong. What do you need to be stronger for?”

“None of your business.”

The man laughed, and then coughed after choking on his own smoke. After regaining his composure, he smiled at Kagura. “Listen up, Kagura-chan,” he said. “You’re still young. Whether or not you train deliberately, life’s bound to throw a lot of things at you that are bound to make you stronger. And when you think you can’t get through it, you can always depend on us adults to help you.” He took another puff. “After all, there’s no such thing as a strong person who’s all alone.”

She was quiet for a while, mulling over the man’s words. It made sense, except Kagura wasn’t surrounded by the world’s most responsible adults. Gintoki, Papi, this MADAO, all of them were a bunch of unreliable old men. Depending on them to solve her problems was like playing Russian Roulette. She stood up and opened her umbrella.

“Whatever, MADAO,” she said. “You’re still a bum. Go take a bath, get a job and stop hanging out with cute, underage girls. This is why your wife left you.” Kagura started to walk back to the Yorozuya, relishing how the old man on the bench started to cry.
