Bullying vs. Mental Illness: a Reason for Suicide
Response to post about mental illness vs. bullying as a reason for suicide:
I was bullied from elementary through high school. I also have a mental illness. And I attempted suicide more than once. However, I don't believe all children/young adults who attempt/commit suicide have a mental illness. It rings too much of simplicity to lump the LGBT community with the MH community. That's not to say that some members of the LGBT community do not have a mental illness. I do agree with your statement that bullies can look at a group of kids and know right away which one is ripe for the picking. I was one of those kids. And the effects from all that bullying, other than attempting suicide? Therapy, lots and lots of therapy.
