CM rewatch: Compulsion

Quotes used:
There are certain clues at a crime scene which, by their very nature, do not lend themselves to being collected or examined. How does one collect love, rage, hatred, fear? ~James Reese
Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircle the world. ~Albert Einstein
I am devoted to fire. Fire is my master. ~Peter Dinsdale
Don't bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself. ~William Faulkner

  • I still wonder what it would've been like had Lukas Haas been cast as Spencer Reid instead of MGG
  • Gideon using the profile to throw The Footpath Killer off
  • Morgan tells Reid to "think outside the box" when Gideon throws him a curveball of a move in his chess game.
  • Ooooh, feisty Elle, up for a challenge of figuring out why the Footpath Killer stutters
  • Elle and JJ meet, so cute and young!
  • Reid playing chess on the jet; was asked for stats and recited them without a pause.
  • Great transition effect from brochure photo to location.
  • H/R eyesex moment in the dorm room.
  • Team profiling the motive of the unsub; plenty of theories.
  • Morgan wearing a tie, but it's looser than the way Reid wears it now. Big change from the Hotch-like appearance he had in the pilot.
  • Morgan trying to get into the head of the unsub by reasoning out where/why he'd set a fire to a dorm room. It wasn't the whole building that was the target.
  • Elle's reasoning of chem student instead of professor describes Reid, with the exception of being a psychopath.
  • Gideon thinks the lack of water is something significant. Tuned out the dean while puzzling it out.
  • He tries to rescue Professor Wallace; Morgan had to drag him away. That's intense-- how he ran into danger to save a life.
  • Secondhand embarrassment scene with the team in front of the classroom and Reid has to talk to them. (revisited in 'Masterpiece' and 'True Genius')
  • Students tell the profilers how easy it is to find out how to make explosive things via the internet. Especially with everyday household items.
  • Unsub's phone call to the tip hotline... it's not what they're thinking the unsub said.
  • Garcia with the Star Trek reference! Geek moment!
  • "That's my girl" n.n Oh, Morgan!
  • The "box" being the standard profile, sometimes they need to get creative, and think of what could be the unknown factor, what doesn't fit the profile, even the unlikely
  • "You sound just like Reid" after Elle recites what factors contribute to a stutter. LOL that was a cute moment.
  • more great banter between Garcia and Morgan, with a little tease on Reid
  • "charown", Hebrew for "God's burning anger", but not religious motive
  • Gideon said something about "not necessarily the prime compulsion" which got Reid thinking
  • Reid used the laptop to reexamine the video footage of the dorm fire
  • mmm shameless hand porn moment when he hits the keys.
  • Gideon compares it to chess and about thinking three steps ahead.
  • Reid's noticing a pattern: doorknob turns, the room number for Professor Wallace's office
  • more shameless hand porn when he wipes the soot away from the office sign.
  • He figures the unsub's got the severe case of OCD-- scrupulosity. Everything done in threes.
  • They pool together the behavioural evidence, and figured out the identity of the unsub.
  • Three single fires on the third day of the third month; office #3 for Professor Wallace, who taught Matthew Rowland on the third day of the week at three PM; repeating the word "sugar" three times (palilalia, the involuntary repetition of words); turning the ring on the third finger (including the thumb) in intervals of three; she and her classmates are working on a project involving the Three Body Problem; as a teen, she had survived a fire in the house with the street number 333.
  • The trinity of threes is what triggers the compulsion; to test the person like she had been tested and believed to have been deemed worthy.
  • Hotch tells Gideon that there's no reasoning with Clara because of the reasoning deficiency due to brain damage.
  • They found the stressor. Hotch remembered that the elevators needed a special key for after-hours access.
  • Charown, charon, maloch
  • Hotch tried reasoning with Clara, stalling for time, then had to shoot when she didn't stop. It was a last-resort measure.
  • Gideon knows how to provoke a stutter, throwing the Footpath Killer off-balance. He even laughed at him. He managed to disarm the guy.
  • Gideon vs Reid in chess on the jet. Mentorship thing, of sorts. He did say that Reid was learning, improving.
