Free entrance to many local museums all weekend.  (Jan 28-29) Ok, the Getty is always free and so are a few others on the list. :)

I highly recommend the Skirball Museum; specifically Noah's Ark for kids, although you have to plan ahead

I just wanted to post about it!
My reaction to free entrance these days -- mark my calendar so I don't accidentally go during free times :)

Good point. We also have a free 3 month membership to the Zimmer museum that needs to be used (started) by Jan 31st; I doubt we'll be able to make it. Saturday they are closed and Sunday only open 12-5, which is right around/during Becca's nap.

Send it to us :). Although I have no idea what it is. Something Jewish based on closure on Saturday's? :)

I would send it to you, but it was personalized with our kids names. It's a discovery-type museum at the Jewish Federation. I've never been, but it's supposed to a lot of fun for preschool age kids. http://www.zimmermuseum.org/
From what I heard, the biggest problem with it is all the religious families with a bazillion kids and one parent who can't control them.
How is that for анти-реклама? :)

:))

We went to kidspace last weekend. So disappointing! Nothing there really, only a couple was climbing structures. My kids had better time on a playground near the museum. Plus the playground was outside!

Yeah I can see how they are too old for kidspace now. We haven't been there in about 2 years, and at the time it was a lot of fun for D.
Did you go in the back where the garden is?

We went to the biking track but not into the gardens.

I don't think they are too old. Danya is still 3.5 :) It is just we expected that there would be many things to do inside and there was practically nothing.

what about those big climbing structures inside? I remember being very impressed and at the same time terrified by them :)

Pretend City sounds wonderful! Did Andrey like it?

Although I rarely want to go to museums in CA. Museums are so dark usually. I cannot stand it. It is much nicer to be outside! We spent tons of time in museums in Chicago but that is because it is was so horrible out :) Partly that is why I like the Getty. It is outside and many buildings are actually quite light!

He loved Pretend City.

I don't care about a cafe. My kids don't eat anything or eat crap at cafes so maybe it is better if there is no cafe :)

Overall it sounds very very good. But I don't know when to go. If it is nice out, it seems silly to go. If it crappy, will I want to drive an hour each way?

I agree, it's a really fun museum! The location is very convenient off the 405. When we met up there with Lena and Nargiza's family, we also had dinner later at the nearby Spectrum mall. It's a nice outdoor mall with a carousel, etc, and lots of running around for the kids.

And I also agree I would only go on an overcast day. :) I believe the weather was so-so when we went last Feb.
