Jimmy sighed, and turned over once more in bed. Goddard padded up to his pillow and whined, unsure of his master's actions. He sensed distress in the human, but couldn't decipher the origin of it.
Jimmy knew this, and sighed again. It had been three months since Cindy was taken, and he wondered why he hadn't gone after her in that time. So much could have happened in three months. She could be dead, or worse. So why couldn't he sleep tonight of all nights? Something inside of him would not sit still, a premonition if he believed in such things. He couldn't help but feel that something was happening as he tried to rest, but couldn't put his finger on it.
"Goddard," he whispered, careful not to rouse his parents, "why haven't I gone for Cindy yet?"
Instantly the mechanical dog's chest panel rose and words popped up on the green screen underneath.
You've had no time.
"I've had plenty of time."
You don't know where to look.
"Didn't we install a tracking device in her two years ago when she crashed in my lab that one time? I could have used that."
You don't understand your own feelings.
Jimmy frowned. "What's that supposed to mean?" he demanded. If Goddard could have shrugged, he would have. Instead, he just turned around and resumed his spot at the foot of Jimmy's bed.
If Jimmy was restless before, then this was hyperactivity. He tossed and turned, but couldn't get comfortable enough to settle down. He couldn't close his eyes even for a second before seeing a mental picture of what Cindy may be now. I don't understand my own feelings. What does that mean?
He wracked his brain to figure out a meaning, but came up with nothing. I know I love her, but how can I not understand that? But if I really did love her, then why has it been three months and I haven't gone out to look for her since the day after she was taken? Maybe that's what Goddard meant. I say that I love her, but I don't really understand such a feeling. I'm a certified genius, amazing in math and science, but matters of the heart escape me. I do love her. And now I'm going to prove it to everyone.
Suddenly he sat up, the sheets falling off of his bare chest. Goddard looked up immediately, and Jimmy stared him in the eye.
"I understand what you're saying. And now we're going to get Cindy. I will bring her back alive. Count on it."
A/N: This night takes place the about the same time that Cindy's first dream occured. Not when she had the dream, obviously, but the time frame inside the dream is the same. That's why Jimmy can't shake the feeling that something horrible is happening to Cindy. I'm not sure if I want to post this anywhere else though, because people who read this on ff.net are just retarded. I get more appreciation here than I do there. And if they really wanted to read it, they'd follow me here.
I know I'm selfish and kind of bitchy, but hey. It's their decision, and if they really want to read, then they'd take the pains necessary to.
