I thought having a panic attack in the middle of my statistics test would be the weirdest thing to happen to me yesterday. Apparently not. Aldo and I completely had a WWJD kind of a moment yesterday. The best thing to do would have been to advise the employees at the pizza place that you had found a wallet belonging to (insert name) and had taken it to the police station ( ... )

Oh, and that's so shitty that his mom said to keep the cash!!! That's stealing. Isn't there a commandment about stealing? And throwing away everything else?!? I hope she loses her wallet someday. Maybe that will change her feelings.

I agree that the best course of action would be to mail it back to his New Mexico address. If he still resides there, he'll get it, and if he's relocated to the NYC area, his mail is probably being forwarded. It kinda sucks for him that he won't get it back for awhile in either case, but at this point he's probably accepted that it's gone forever and will be surprised and delighted when he gets it back.

In Canada, you look if that person has a business card. If so, call it, else, in Canada at least, chuck it in a mailbox. Canada Post does its part.

But take the money first. If you don't, the post office workers will. It's moral relativism at that point.

In canada we also have Canada411.com, (online yellow pages) which you can use to look up a phone number for a person. Perhaps the US has something like this and you can try it that way. That way you can call them and find out if that number is still thiers and find out where they want you to ship it. Just put a reciet of any money you spend to get it to them in the wallet so it's all accounted for.

To make it even easier if US icenses have his physical address use this and it will give you a phone number for that address.
