[Hiking]: Brecherspitz (1683 m) // Bavaria - Nov 14th

Nov 21, 2020 12:28

Hello again

I'm still trying to catch up with all my hiking photos as I did a lot of day trips these past few weeks.

A week ago on Friday I took a day off and hiked up to nearly 2000 m of Bärenkopf in Austria.
The next day, so exactly a week ago, I did my next hike.

Yes, that's right. Two 5-6h hikes back to back without taking any break and it wasn't a problem at all.
This is good to know because eventually I might want to do a tour that requires to spend the night in a mountain hut.
We'll see.

As this destination is near Munich and it was a Saturday with beautiful autumn weather I had to get up very early in order to still find a parking lot.
And it was the right decision. 10 minutes later and no parking lot would have been available anymore. It's so crazy! There are so many people out and about now who usually don't go hiking as they've lost the things they would usually do due to the pandemic. *shrugs*

The Brecherspitz is a very popular and well-known destination in Bavaria. That's also because there's an easy trail up to it which I avoided like the plague as I figured most people would take that easy trail.
I took a more challenging approach and ended up doing an even more difficult and longer trail than I intended to, but that was great. It was a lovely round trip in the end.
I prefer full loops instead of going back the way I came from, simply because you get to see a lot more.

The landscape with all the little rocks reminded me a bit of Akiyoshidai in Japan. :)

After hiking up extremely steep slopes for about 2 h I was rewarded with this absolutely stunning view.
Note that this isn't the peak yet, but from there a lovely ridge walk starts and I love those - despite being afraid of heights ....

On the left you can see the peak already and also the ridge walk leading towards it.

It wasn't really difficult, but you had to use your hands here and there boulder-style which I like a lot. :)

The real challenge was that it was super crowded as the trail was so narrow and like I said earlier it is a popular peak ....

And there's the peak where pretty much everybody and their dogs decided to have their lunch break. At this point I decided to wear my mask as keeping distance was impossible, but surprisingly I was the ONLY one who bothered wearing a mask .............

After searching for a while I found a nice spot for lunch break.
You can actually see THREE lakes from up there.
In the photo above you see Spitzingsee which is the smallest of the lakes.

On the opposite side you can see Schliersee.

And then you can also see a bit of Tegernsee!
That's the lake I've been to a few weeks ago.

I took a completely different trail back down, enjoying views of Schliersee the entire time.

The only thing I don't like about autumn hikes is that all lakes look pretty much the same. Simply blue.
But in fact, a lot of these lakes have stunning colors in all shades especially in the early summer months which would make much better photos!!

That's how social distancing works! ;)

I was shocked to see that there were still a few people trying to hike up starting around 2:30 p.m.
They do realize they only have 2 hours of daylight left, right?
And these trails aren't exactly what you want to challenge yourself to when it's pitch dark ... oh well ....

I do have the feeling some people don't realize what they're getting themselves into ... especially those who usually don't hike.
I saw a handful of people puffing and huffing who just came up from the easy trail, just to take a break and smoke. .... ^^; ....

Once back down I did a quick stop at Schliersee, but as you can see the sun was almost gone at that point although it wasn't even 4 p.m. yet.
That's the problem with lakes next to high mountains, the sun quickly vanishes behind said mountains and then it's all dark. ^^; .....

Another nice hiking day and I'm glad I went!
I decided to take a break on Sunday. I didn't go hiking, but went to a lake instead.
Photos will follow at some point.

I also took a day off on Wednesday and went hiking probably one last time.
It started snowing yesterday at least down to 600 m, so most peaks are now covered in snow.
While it's still fine here below 600 m and it's also sunny, the temps are around 3°C max .....

Needless to say that I've been out and about on the weekends recently and even during the week, taking days off.
So, a LOT of things have piled up at home that I need to take care of, so I'm trying to mainly stay home and do shit this weekend.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend!!

Bye~chuu!
