Hina opened his eyes slowly. It was dark. Really dark. All he could see were the outline of the trees. He tried sitting up but all he could feel were aches and pains in every damn part of his body. Shit. And his head hurt like a bitch. God, he felt old. At that moment all the memories came rushing back to him. The rain, the headlights and then… the crash. His head snapped up as he started to look around frantically.
“Kimi! Baru!” he shouted. “Ryo! Maru! Tatsu! Yasu!”
But there was no response. All he could here was the eerie ambience of the mountainside. Desperate and worried for his friends’ safety, he stood up quickly but it was wet and he slipped. He fell head first to the ground and blacked out.
Maru was having a really nice dream where the members were all crowding around a table full of delicious warm food and everyone were laughing and stuffing themselves. Awww, he sighed in contentment and smiled. He wriggled around as he tried to get more comfortable. That was when he realized that he wasn’t on his bed since his bed wasn’t as slimy and squishy. His eyes snapped open. It was dark but he could see that dawn was approaching. Maru sat up, confused. What was this place? Why wasn’t he on his warm comfy bed? What had happened to him?
Yoko waved his arms wildly as if doing that could fend off the bugs that were somehow attracted to him.
“Where are they? How did we manage to separate this far apart anyway?” Yoko asked.
Subaru, who was trudging along behind him kept quiet. The accident that happened last night was still bothering him.
“I’m taking a break,” Yoko said as he plopped down on the forest floor, blatantly ignoring the puddles of mud around him.
Subaru sat next to him. “We need to find the others,” he said solemnly.
Yoko nodded silently. They do have to find the others, fast, before any of them got hurt.
Tacchon grumbled miserably as the rain started to fall. The sun was up which meant that he had been lost and alone for half a day at least. He leaned against a huge tree and slumped down to the cold hard earth. He hated this! He was hungry. He was tired. And most importantly, he was alone... and hungry. The bushes in front of him decided to rustle at that moment. He stood straight up, his senses completely alert. Slowly, he reached for a thick branch lying nearby with his right hand, prepared to attack if he had to. The bushes rustled again, more violently this time. He gripped the branch tighter. A figure seemed to be emerging from it. He outstretched his right arm and waved it around. And that was when he saw the figure clearly.
“Yassan?”
“Tacchon!” Yasu exclaimed as he ran towards his friend and gave him a bear hug.
“Ahh.. Ouch! Ouch!”
Yasu backed away immediately.
“Sorry! Sorry! Are you alright?”
“I think my left arm’s broken,” he said looking cool and pitiful at the same time.
Yasu’s eyes grew wide. Aw, fishbuckets!
Hina became angrier with each step he took. He had been walking for hours but he hadn’t come across any single soul yet. How the hell were they able to separate so far apart anyway? To make matters worse, his head throbbed mercilessly. He couldn’t believe he had slipped! Slipped, for goodness sake. That was so unmanly of him. Just then, he saw a figure lying on the ground just ahead. He walked faster. Could it be…
“Maru?”
The figure didn’t move. Hina kneeled down and turned the figure’s face so he could see whom it was.
“Maru!” he exclaimed loudly as he began waking his friend up.
“Shin-chan?”
Hina nodded his head twice, Maru beamed. Abruptly, he sat up and hugged him. He wasn’t alone anymore.
“Where’re the others?” Hina asked as they finally broke away.
Maru shrugged. “I woke up alone. Then I walked a little bit and went to sleep again.”
Hina looked up at the sky, thinking.
“Hey, shin-chan. Your forehead is bleeding.”
“Eh?” Hina exclaimed as he touched his forehead. His hands felt something wet and sticky. He looked at his hands. It was blood.
“Oi,” Subaru called out to Yoko who was behind him. “Look over there.”
Yoko looked up to where his friend was pointing and a huge smile formed on his face and of them started running at once.
“Shingo! Maru!” they shouted together.
The four of them gathered and hugged each other tightly. Each of them realised that the past few hours without each other was pure hell.
“You guys alright?” Hina asked.
“We should be the ones asking you that. Your head’s bleeding,” Subaru pointed out.
Hina grimaced. He so didn’t want to be reminded of it. “You guys don’t happen to have a bandage do you?”
Yoko who had gone quiet for a while spoke up, “Sit down for a bit, will you.”
“It should be fine,” Yoko said as he checked the wound. “It has stopped bleeding and the cut is kind of small. We need to find a first aid kit though, just in case.”
“If that’s the case we should start going then,” Hina suggested as he stood up. “Ryo, Tatsu and Yasu are waiting to be rescued aren’t they?”
“Yassan, can we rest for a while? I broke my arm remember?”
“Yes, I do. You broke your arm, not your leg. So stop complaining and keep walking!”
“Uwaaah~ I didn’t know Yassan was this evil!” Tacchon complained.
“I’m just worried. The sooner we find the others, the better. And we can fix your arm too, before it gets any worse. I hope we run into Yoko first since he’s good with all the first-aid stuff.”
“Yassan?”
“What?”
“Nothing.”
Yasu rolled his eyes. Tacchon smiled. He just found someone to play with.
“Yassan?”
“What?” he asked in exasperation.
“Nothing.”
Yasu clicked his tongue. This wasn’t the time to play around.
“Yass…”
“If you say my name one more time…”
“I saw them.”
“What?”
Tacchon signalled Yasu to look to his right with his head since the little guy was holding onto his good hand.
“Shin-chan! Yokocho! Maru-chan! Shibuyan!” Yasu shouted as he abruptly dropped Tacchon’s hands and waved both of his wildly.
Once again, their reunion was noisy with Yasu jumping around and hugging everyone while shouting their names at the top of his voice. Tacchon hung back. After a while, he cleared his throat. Once, twice. It took him three tries before Hina finally noticed him.
“What’s wrong?” he asked as he approached the younger guy.
“I broke my arm.”
“What?!” Maru exclaimed as he too ran towards Tacchon’s side.
“Which arm?” Yoko asked.
Tacchon pointed to his left arm.
“Yasu, may I borrow whatever it is that you’re wearing around your neck please?” Yoko asked seriously.
Yasu pouted as he unwrapped the colourful scarf he was wearing and gave it to Yoko. It wasn’t just a thing - it was a scarf!
“Thanks,” Yoko said without looking at the little guy. He was already concentrating on Okura.
Subaru who had noticed Yasu pouting went to him and patted his head. “Don’t be petty. Yokocho has Tacchon to worry about now,” he said comfortingly.
As Yoko created a makeshift sling, Hina looked around. “So Ryo’s the only one missing.”
An abandoned shack in the forest
Ryo opened his eyes slowly. While lying down, he examined his surroundings. It looked like he was in a little shack. It was dark inside - lighted only by a candle but he could see sunlight slipping through the little slits in between the wood. He tried to sit up but he can’t. He tried moving his arms but it feels as if they were tied down. He strained his neck so that he could see his arms. He was tied down. What the hell? He thrashed his body left and right, trying to wriggle out of the rope that was tying him down to the bed. It was no use. It only made the pounding in his head grow stronger. Just then, the door opened and Ryo could see a hooded figure entering the shack. The figure turned around to close the door before facing Ryo. What he saw made his blood cold. He was totally screwed.
