Recently, the government impose a 6% service charge tax on every prepaid reloads. This charge will commence on 15th September 2011. OMA! That's next Thursday.

Okay, okay. 6% service charge. Not so much right? I mean, come on. We use expensive cell phones so forking out another 6% on reloads shouldn't be a problem right? Right? Right?
Okay, why don't we look at the numbers shall we?
Let's say that you reload RM 10 per week.
1 week = RM 10
1 month = RM 10 x 4
= RM 40
1 year = RM 40 x 12
= RM 480
And let's say that you've been using prepaid reloads for 4 years (assuming that you consistently buy RM 10 worth of reload every week).
RM 480 x 4 = RM 1, 920
Once the 6% charge is effective, here is the outcome:
1 week = RM 10.60
1 month = RM42.40
1 year = RM 508.80
4 years = RM 2035.20
Let's calculate the difference shall we.
1 week = RM 0.60
1 month = RM 2.40
1 year = RM 88.80
4 years = RM 115.20
Now let's calculate on RM 30, RM 50 and RM 100 (cause I have nothing better to do). Let's assume these are monthly use.
RM 30.00 ----> RM 31.80
Difference = RM 1.80
1 year = RM 360.00 ----> RM 381.60
Difference = RM 21.80
4 years = RM 1440.00 ----> RM 1, 526.40
Difference = RM 86.40
RM 50 ----> RM 53
Difference = RM 3
1 year = RM 600 ----> RM 636
Difference = RM 36
4 years = RM 2, 400 ----> RM 2, 544
Difference = RM 144
RM 100 ----> RM 106
Difference = RM 6
1 year = RM 1, 200 ----> RM 1, 272
Difference = RM 72
4 years = RM 4, 800 ----> RM 5088
Difference = RM 288
Now, to those who said that people shouldn't complain.... see those numbers? That's why people are complaining. They did their math. Maybe it doesn't feel that bad at first but the numbers really add up and it ain't small.
