1. Wednesday reading (late on Tuesday, but whatever, it's Tuesday in most of the world).
What I just finished: Three books!
-Two were Tessa Dare books:
Do You Want to Start a Scandal and
When a Scot Ties the Knot. Definitely enjoyable, but I don't know if I should read them back-to-back. If I read more of these, I'll break them up with some other books. (I just have to figure out with what because I was purposely reading them before bed so I wouldn't stress myself out with heavier reading. Probably more fanfic, if I had to guess.)
-I finally finished
Age of Ambition! I started reading it in June, I think? It's not that it was a hard read; I just got sidetracked for. Um. A few months. Anyway, China was a big hole in my knowledge, and it was nice getting a perspective on what modern China looks like. And now I can give the book back to Older Sister! Finally!
What I'm reading now: The only thing I'm in progress on is the book on
Complex PTSD. That's definitely a beginning-of-the-day read. (The way I'm differentiating is for my sleep hygiene stuff.)
What I'm reading next: I always guess books and end up...not reading what I'm saying. I will say I'm going to be borrowing a book from Older Sister on the '60s Civil Rights Movement soon. (She's a history teacher and gets books for a school-related book club. I love nonhistory, so I get to borrow them when she's finished.) I feel like Sister wanted me to read something, too. It's nice being around so many readers.
2. Sleep improvement is generally going well! I'm liking the way my day's structured at the moment: wake up slow, hang out with the kiddos for a couple hours, exercise/chores, write, play games, go to bed. (Frankly, just moving chores away from the end of the day means it's a lot easier to go to bed.) There's still some things I want to improve, but I do think I'm sleeping a little better. Next: breathing exercises at the beginning of the day because I can't seem to wake up not feeling anxious/terrible.
I'm also pleased that I've been working out even though we're solidly in the cold/dark part of the year. (It was barely above freezing when I picked up Nibling from school today. I was wearing layers, and I still had to bounce in place.) I've been trying to get an outdoor walk in the beginning of my day - which is always afternoon because of how I roll - and I do yoga after the kids are in bed. (And the dogs, when I can wrangle it.) It's hard to keep going this time of year, but I'm doing reasonably well. And, if I get bored, I'm probably going to try weights some more.
3. A cousin of mine had a baby a couple of weeks ago. (Well, his wife did.) It's so interesting - this cousin is a cousin once-removed, since he's the same generation as my dad, but his kids (who share great-grandparents with me) look a lot like Nibling and Dosling. You can tell they're in the same family. But then, you can also tell Bro-in-Law's first cousins that Nibling/Dosling see a lot (who are just a little bit older than the niblings) are related to them, too.
Genetics are a thing. No one is surprised. (Except for me, somehow.)
