I think I should have put "NSA" in quotations, because that's the feeling I got as well -- for one, you don't really have D/s in relationships without trust, so that's usually a 'string' right there. And then the handholding, which I mentioned, is really... well, incongruous, and all signs point to Relationship. Don't worry, you did convey that it's not everything they think it is. :D

I wonder, what's more likely? Arthur is definitely in denial here, and this is mostly Arthur's narrative, but is Eames? I get the feeling Eames knows exactly what's going on here and is just waiting for Arthur to cotton on, perfectly happy to keep up the charade until he comes to his senses. And I LIKE that. :D

I really like the A/E dynamic where they come together every so often and it's amazing and they're so good together, but they don't realize (or perhaps they come to realize) that they keep coming back to each other for a reason, because they're partners in a sense -- I'd read a million fics, just with that storyline.

Again though, thanks for sharing! It was amazing and I'm going to go read it again~

Well, this is pre-movie and I'm kind of exploring, I guess, Arthur's denial, that certainty that it's right to be alone. He's going to figure out at some point that he's ... he's been running away longer than Cobb has somewhere in the middle of the movie and maybe there'll be a postmovie resolution for this fic timeline.

(:

Eames is... he's patient. He knows he wants Arthur, but he also knows it's not fair to try and keep Arthur, so instead he lets Arthur go when he needs space and comes to him to show interest. It's a game, but an affectionate one, and I think he has this hope inside, that Arthur will actually come around. He doesn't believe that the people he loves have to be by his side constantly - it's when they return that he knows they want him.
