Hi. I'm still here. Just been very busy recently.
I've been training for a 7 mile trail run on December 1. I had been feeling like I wasn't training hard enough because I hadn't been making the time for it, but today I completed a 5 mile run in 1 hour. I'm really proud of myself and am actually feeling like I will be able to complete the 7 miles. I am quite sore, my knees were hurting a bit at the end of the run. There's still 3 more weeks before the run and I signed up for a Thanksgiving 5K while I'm visiting my parents. I've also been dropping weight like crazy with all of this running. I've lost a total of 30 lbs since the end of my first year. Pretty crazy when you think about it. I'm actually going to have to start trying to put weight on soon if this keeps up.
Work is going ok. Arno asked me (on Friday, by the way) to talk at the Small Eukaryotes meeting that we attend this Thursday. I presented my research there in March but I actually have quite a bit more to talk about now so that's pretty exciting. Plus its a data meeting so you can't have to know what things mean, which is good because a lot of my newest data is puzzling. The majority of my week will be making slides and processing MS data that I haven't had time to look at yet. I have my retreat talk to start with, which is about half as long as the Sm Euks talk. In addition, Arno is finally accepting the fact that I don't want to do BIAcore and now want me to use ITC. I'm so excited, both because I got my way and it's almost like a real chemistry technique. I get to pretend that I'm still a chemist!!! :) It is a difficult technique, but I'm also kind excited about that too.
I've also been taking a class this semester on teaching. The class ends with a teaching portfolio where you create materials that you would use in a class you are teaching. I haven't been working on it as much through the semester and now I'm stressed that I need to get it done. Even though I realize that it's a pass/fail course and it doesn't quite matter how much work I put into it, I really want to create a great portfolio. We'll see how much time I end up having to devote to it. I do really like the class though, especially since the prof uses a lot of the techniques on us as students while teaching the theory and purpose of it.
I currently have almost 600 sq.ft. of bamboo flooring sitting in my living room. I have no idea when it will get installed. My parents are going to come help me with it, which is great, but they are in the middle of their own remodeling projects and it isn't clear when they'll have time. I'm pretty happy about that though, because I have so much going on right now that I can't even really think about flooring and would go crazy if I had to do all of this and install it.
Have to get back to work. Lots to get done.
