Life on Mars 203 - Review and Picspam

This episode is all about following your instincts and Sam's struggle to go with his gut and not think things through logically. Thinking logically and *knowing* that the IRA did not plant the bomb, for all the reasons he lists, nearly got Ray killed. And then nearly got him killed as he tried to reason through which wire was the right one to cut. In the first instance, his logic blinded to the possibility that someone claiming to be the IRA has planted a bomb and in the second his logic paralyzed him so that he couldn't decide.

Once he stops trying to reason, he becomes much more successful. He goes into the church on a hunch and then follows the hunch to Miller's yard. Once there he discovers the evidence that Miller is the bomber and where the next bomb is going to go off. Even the standoff was all about instincts when Sam puts down his gun on the feeling that Miller wouldn't shoot an unarmed man.

The episode begins with Doctor Mathews talking directly to Sam through the tv and having a difference of opinion with another doctor (who talks through the radio). The question is whether Sam still has all of his brain functions. Mathews says yes and the other doctor says no. Sam emphatically says YES.

Here's the moment when the taunting and undercutting these two are doing nearly turns deadly. Why didn't Sam keep going? Did he believe that there was a bomb at the gut level even though his said no?

Poor Sam! Now he's in the dog house. (I will note that I like this view.)

Yep, in the dog house. No one's speaking to him except Annie and she just wants to tell him he's an ass.

(Also like this one.)

Here they are questioning the suspect. Yeah, he's going to give two name just like that. I can see that Sam believes it except not. He's also looking annoyed that they're wasting time with O'Brian when they could be looking for the actual bomber.

I also see some hints of the Master here. Something about the expression maybe.

Oops! There's the bomb! And Sam lying on the ground. Mmmmm.

There is absolutely no homoerotic subtext in this show. Nope. (Also lovely neck shot!)

Okay, does Sam leave the tv on hoping for freaky things to happen or does he just keep forgetting that they will?? I have to say that creepy tv girl is creepy. *shudder*

Neck! Here is Sam following his instincts and solving the case.

Oh, look at that. Miller is in debt and has a secret map hidden away. This may be a clue!

Sam *can't* tell Gene that Gene is right and he is wrong. At least not completely. The closest he can do is say that they're both right. And that works so long as Gene can believe that he was more right. Hee!

Sam looks damn fine holding a gun and looking bad ass!

Once again, everything is alright and we end in the pub having a laugh. Really not a bad way to end an episode.
