Two Thoughts on Journey's End

While I was watching Journey's End and putting together my screencap review, I noticed two things I found interesting.

First, Ten was not at all upset with new!Ten for creating the weapon that would turn the reality bomb on the Daleks in the "biggest backfire in history." He's only upset when it's destroyed, since they now have no way of stopping ( Read more... )

Perhaps he continues to hope that the Daleks will eventually learn and evolve.

I've forgotten, did Blue kill the Daleks before or after it was revealed Dalek Caan had betrayed them? Because if it was after then Brown has a point - he knows that Daleks can be redeemed.

It was after. However I see it as similar to the Spike issue on BTVS. One vampire goes to get his soul. You then find a way to kill all vampires. Do you use it? I say yes. The weight of the deaths they would cause is greater than the possibility of further redemptions.

Anyway, the Doctor already knew that Daleks could be redeemed ever since his interactions with Dalek Sec.

About the Daleks evolving -- well, they keep TRYING! But it ends up being the same thing we saw with the humans in WWW3, back in season 1. Humans are averse to change. Show them a spaceship, they cry HOAX because they want the status quo. By the same token, show a Dalek what it could turn into, and you get the same reaction.

The Dalek's view of their nature is so narrow that I think the reaction against change is even stronger.

It's in the Doctor's nature to keep hoping though. And once the Daleks are no longer an immediate threat, he goes back to hoping that they'll change.

I like these points you make. :) So, as tired as I am, all I can say right now is that I agree. XD

Thanks for the reply! I'm glad it makes sense since it seems very clear to me.
