Some TV Notes + Banana Bread

Life on Mars

I've finally gotten around to watching this. I've only seen the first episode so far, but I liked it enough that I immediately wanted to watch the next one. I actually saw the first 20 minutes before and wasn't happy, but I think it was that the picture quality was awful. Being able to see what's going on = awesome. One thing I've heard is how hot John Simm is in this. So far, not so much. Does he get hotter once the initial freak out wears off??

Torchwood

I saw Dead Man Walking today. I'm still processing, but I have a few initial thoughts.

I thought they were going to bring Owen back, but not I'm not so sure. It seems like they've decided to move in a new direction with the character. Instead, he's going to be undead for the near term at least. It's odd, but I'm getting a Fred/Illyria vibe from him now.

Martha was just sort of there this episode. I'm still not feeling her on Torchwood, which makes me sad since I liked her on Doctor Who.

Banana Bread

I was recently inspired to make banana bread so I made some tonight. Recipe follows.

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

5 oz white flour
4 oz whole wheat flour
1/4 c wheat germ
3/4 c sugar
3/4 t baking soda
1/2 t salt
1 c semisweet chocolate chips
3 very ripe bananas, mashed well (about 1 1/2 cups)
1/4 c plain yogurt
2 lg eggs, beaten lightly
6 T unsalted butter, melted and cooled
1 tsp vanilla extract

Adjust oven rack to lower middle position and heat oven to 350F. Grease and flour bottom and sides a 9 inch loaf pan; set aside. Combine first seven ingredients together in large bowl; set aside.

Mix mashed bananas, yogurt, eggs, butter, and vanilla with wooden spoon in medium bowl. Lightly fold banana mixture into dry ingredients with rubber spatula until just combined and batter looks thick and chunky. Scrape batter into prepared loaf pan; bake until loaf is golden brown and toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, about 55 minutes. Cool in pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.
