*sigh* I suppose I'll have to get used to no new Once on Sundays and no review to write up on Monday. And my other shows don't start until July - Closer, Leverage, White Collar. Anyway, today I have some Robert Carlyle news, recs, and a review.
News:
He recently did an
interview with Gold Derby. There is not a lot of new info in the interview - he talks about masks, what attracted him to the role, the amount of creative freedom he has with the character (such as adding the dearies), and his favorite Rumpel episode (Skin Deep for showing all different sides to him).
The article also says that he will be on the Emmy ballot this year and I'm not quite sure what they are getting at since we know the nominees won't be announced for at least a month (voting is certainly not over). They could be noting that his name, along with MANY other names, was submitted for the general vote and which was announced weeks ago or it's possible that step one of voting is done and he has moved onto step two where he would be up against a much smaller pool of candidates.
Recs:
I have two more fanfic recs. Both Rumbelle since that is what most people are writing for his character and both as yet unfinished. I was going to wait to rec until they were done but updates seem to be coming regularly I do hope they will be complete stories at some point.
Instead of a maid, Rumpelstiltskin is looking for a wife. Rumpel may or may not be a hard man to love (though he thinks he is), but he is definitely a hard man to live with. This story is told from Belle's point of view and her Rumpel is a complex, difficult, often bitter, and exasperating man who is not quite sure what to do with a wife now that he has her. There is also some excellent smut. :)
A Bed of Thorns by
nym_fandom This story starts out with the crazy premise of taking Storybrooke and moving it to the Old West. I'm not always a fan of complete AUs but this one is seriously addictive and very well written. Mr. Gold is a dangerous and greatly feared gunslinger and Belle is the daughter of a washed up, alcoholic doctor who Gold has loved from afar for years. Will they find love or is the author only in it for the angst? We'll find out.
The Tune of Bullets by
the_bad_faery I also have a few fanvid recs. These are Rumpelstiltskin centric vids as opposed to pairing vids. There are MANY pairing vids (especially if you like Rumbelle) but not too many ones that focus on his character, and, as I do love a good character study vid, I thought I would rec these. No one has put together the definitive vid of his character yet so I will continue hoping but these are well done and worth watching.

Review of Riff Raff:
A week, maybe two, ago I saw Riff Raff finally and I've been meaning to say something about it here. Basically, I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone who wants to see a very young Carlyle in one of his first filmed roles. I think it is a testament to both his skill and a certain amount of luck that right at the beginning of his film career he has a central, leading role in a movie. The film itself is done in a controlled chaos sort of way which sometimes becomes chaotic enough that it is hard to figure out what is going on in certain scenes but that makes sense considering Loach uses directed improvisation in his films. However, the main thrust and political message of the movie comes through quite well. Also, if you are not really up on your English, Scottish and Irish accents you are definitely going to miss some of the dialog. (unless you get your hands on a version with subtitles which I did not) Carlyle's accent is especially thick in the movie and even with a fair amount of practice I know I didn't get a good portion of what he said though I did get enough to understand most of it. One more thing - some of the reviews I read about the movie call it a romantic comedy. And it does have romance (for Carlyle's character - yay shirtless scenes!) and there is comedy but in my opinion it is not at all a romantic comedy.
