Once Upon a Time Scenes Picspam - 105: That Still Small Voice
I took a little break on these favorite scenes picspams since Skin Deep took over my brain for a while but I'm back on them and it's time for Archie to get some character development.
In fact this picspam is ALL Archie/Jiminy. Archie and Emma, Archie and Regina, Jiminy and the Blue Fairy, Jiminy and Rumpelstiltskin. Unfortunately for Mary and David I'm a bit down on their scenes at the moment. I really loved them the first time I watched the episode but now I can't help but think where it's going once David gets stuffed with curse memories. And, anyway, Archie hasn't had much screen time otherwise so it is good to focus on him here!
The Archie/Jiminy scenes that really resonate with me in this episode are the ones that show turning points in his life. At first glance this scene with Emma doesn't seem like a turning point since he already knew he had done wrong by Henry and Emma pointing it out just made him defensive. But this is the curse-breaker getting involved and pushing. When Emma pushes cracks appear in the curse as they do here with Archie.
Another reason I like this scene is it shows Emma bonding with Henry. He comes to her in tears and she goes (like a good mother) to rip Archie a new one.
Archie! Archie! What did you do? You told me not to take the fantasy away. You told me it would devastate him.
Of course, if therapy stops working, you adjust it.
Is it her? Did she threaten you? What could be strong enough to drown out your own conscious?
I do not need to defend my professional decisions to you, okay?

In my next scene I've chosen the moment Jiminy gets his happy ending and finally learns to listen to his conscience. He has spent his entire life until this point going along and doing things he knew were wrong and he has finally done something so awful that he can no longer continue. I do find it interesting that even with the curse he and Geppetto have maintained their connection and their friendship.
I wish… I wish…
I hear your wish - you don’t need to wish it so loudly. But it is not possible. I cannot bring back the boy’s parents...What’s done is done. There may be another way.
I can’t get away from these people. They’re my parents. They’re who I am.
But if you didn’t want to be that, what would you like to be? I hear your wish.

And here he is taking back his happy ending in Storybrooke! He will no longer ignore his conscience. And Regina so wishes that she had his heart in a box. But she doesn't so he gets to go around town doing what he thinks is right instead of what she wants him to do. One less puppet on a string.
You’re going to leave me alone and let me do my work. In peace.
Really? Why’s that?
Because someday, Madam Mayor, you may find yourself in a custody battle. And you know how the court determines who is a fit parent? They consult an expert. Particularly one who has treated the child. So, I suggest that you think about that. And you allow me to do my work. And let me do it the way my conscious tells me to.

Here's a question - If Jiminy had not made a deal with Rumpelstiltskin which ended up being something so horrible he couldn't live with it and so became a cricket to take care of Geppetto then who would have made the magic wardrobe? Hmmm. Of course we know about Jiminy and Geppetto because their past and maybe there would have been different master woodworker otherwise. But then Jiminy would probably have gone the rest of his life following along behind his parents, ignoring his conscience, and harming (if only in smaller ways) everyone he met. Instead he wanted to be free and he didn't care how he got there so long as he was.
Gold thread - for your thievery. Thank you. You can go. But you want something else, don’t you? Something with magic.
Every year, I’m stuck in that damn wagon. I want to be free. I want to… I want to be someone else, but something keeps holding me back.
Then I have exactly what you need. This will set you free. Pour it, sprinkle it, put it in their curds and whey… Anything will work...Ah! But you have nothing more to give to me. Tell you what - after the potion has done its work, leave them where they are and I’ll come collect them. It’ll be my fee.
What will become of them?
Worry you not. They’ll be in safe hands and you’ll be free.
