Day 15 - Favorite female character
(full list) Hey! TV Meme! You probably thought I forgot about it. *g* But instead I'm going to talk about my favorite female character. Though there were many possibilities - Buffy, Donna Noble, Aeryn Sun, Parker, and Brenda Lee Johnson to name a few - there is only one character at the top of my list. Hell, I named my cat for her!
Kara Thrace
On the face of it, Kara looks like that archetypal Strong Female Character. She drinks. She smokes. She's the best damn fighter pilot that they have. She can beat down cylons! But her toughness is just the very beginning of the character. Once we get past that (though it is fun watching her be all badass!), she is full of contradictions since she is actually a Strong Character, Female.
Heroism and selfishness. Toughness and fragility. Confidence and self-loathing. Cruelty and kindness. She does everything 100% which is what makes her such an amazing fighter pilot - she lives on the extreme outside of her skin. Not that she doesn't feel fear. It's just that it doesn't matter. She's going to take that chance and do whatever it takes to win. Unless we're talking about feelings. Those she runs from, denies, and refuses to acknowledge.
