TV Round Up - Life, Heroes, Bones

We went nuts and watched tv tonight; what can I say, we're wild and crazy. We saw Life, Heroes, and Bones. Since I've rather lost interest in House (I've got some episodes but I'm in no hurry to watch them), I think I'm caught up. At least for a day or two.

Life - Black Friday

"If yesterday was Thanksgiving and today is Christmas, what's tomorrow?" "Saturday"

The opening sequence was beautiful and surreal, just how I like Life. I have to say that they've had some really great openers this season and the contrasts of the amazingly decorated mall with the dead body and those with the horde of people waiting in the dark to be let in was great. In this episode, the weirdness of the mall location extended throughout as we uncover the connections and the underside of mall life. It's become its own dysfunctional community complete with a local crime lord and a lieutenant who wants to move into the the top spot. I'm just not sure how the assistant manager of a shoe store became a crime lord. *scratches head* I guess he wanted a mid-level job that didn't require much thought so that he could concentrate on moving his people into place and bringing security into his circle.

It looks as though the Charlie/Jennifer hookup was about finishing old business and closing a chapter. The very place they met to have sex was all about the past and it all felt like a goodbye. It's interesting that for all the heat I saw previously, they had very little chemistry here. I have to think that it was deliberate and Charlie is moving on. I have to admit that I was rather looking forward to how messed up it was going to get and now it looks as though it's going to be no muss, no fuss. In other relationship news, can I hope that Dani walking out on Tidwell means no more of that?

I'm wondering what's going on with the FBI agent. Last season Charlie had various obstacles in his way of solving the murder as different characters warned him off continuing his investigation throughout the season. He even had his house searched for evidence that he was investigating and came very close to losing everything if it hadn't been for Ted. Agent Bodner looks to be taking a similar place in the narrative and I look forward to seeing the two of them playing off each other.

Why is fruitcake such perennial joke? 'It's neither fruit nor cake.' 'Heaviest substance known to man.' I suppose a bad one could be one or both of these things, but I've had some darn good fruitcake over the years. The best ones are nearly all fruit and nuts with just enough cake to keep it from falling apart. Don't knock it until you've had a good one (assuming of course that you like dates, figs, and nuts).

Heroes - Villains

I don't have too much to say about this show, but I'm still along for the ride. I can't say that I have a strong emotional connection with any of the characters and I think that helps enjoy it since I'm not all worried about my favorite characters getting tortured, retconned, or killed.

I did like seeing how things got started. HRG is responsible for Sylar; he'd be dead from shame if Elle hadn't stepped in and he may have controlled his urges if she hadn't be playing him.

Also, could the Petrelli brothers have spent *more* time hugging and putting their hands all over each other? Now I remember why shipping those two seemed so obvious in season 1. They don't touch like that anymore.

Bones - The Con Man In The Meth Lab

This was a fun episode and I enjoyed all the family dynamics between Seeley and Jarad. I haven't always been a fan of Brennan's family issues but this worked for me. Perhaps because we got twice the eye candy for the episode or maybe because I just like the older protective brother/younger screwup brother dynamic. What I can't believe is that Brennan believed Jarad's bullshit. She's known Booth for years at this point, seen him under all kinds of stressful situations, and should have had a better handle on his character. I don't buy her difficulty in reading people here as an excuse. All I can think is that she was attracted and wanted to believe what Jarad said.

So Angela is still back with her ex and we've moved on entirely from Angela/Hodgins. At this point I don't need to hear any more about it; it's like picking at the scab, lets move on.
