You know, I find it odd that so many Americans have been willing to step up and donate $10 via text, or buy a tshirt, or send money to the Red Cross, or whatever else they do for Haiti, but have proven completely unwilling to pay a little bit more in taxes to help provide healthcare for themselves, their parents, their children, and their neighbors. Don't get me wrong - I think the outpouring of support for Haiti has been nothing short of admirable and remarkable, particularly in "tough economic times." But what happened to Obama calling on the American people to "do the hard thing"? Hell, what happened to the Democratic party? In the (perhaps slightly paraphrased) words of Jon Stewart: the Democrats have more votes both in the House and the Senate than Bush EVER did, when he did "whatever the F*CK he wanted!" I have been completely, totally unable to listen to the news this week. The media and powers that be just seem to have worked themselves up into such an insane frenzy - really? This is the excuse? Only an 18 seat majority? Really????
