Laidback Liberal Ladies Looking for Like-Minded Lodger

I spent far too much time crafting the perfect craigslist *room for rent* ad tonight. There's a lot of competition and this is a bad time of year for renting rooms. When in doubt, alliterate! I still prefer craigslist over any other place to post but the signal to noise ratio is rapidly deteriorating.

I had my first break from H today since Wednesday 5pm. I spent most of it at a memorial service for Tim Brooks who ran the infamous Blue Gallery in Portland during the early 90s. I wasn't close to Tim but the Blue Gallery was an important place to me back then, we shared a lot of friends, and I took care of a couple of his kids now and then. I was underage but had a fake ID when BG opened. I largely stayed away from the bar out of respect (and paranoia) but that wasn't going to stop me from seeing bands like Beat Happening, Vomit Launch, and Crackerbash. BG was one of those weird, visionary, hybrid spaces that housed bands, art exhibits, meetings, political actions, etc. It's one of the places that gave me permission to come up with my own crazy scheme when the time was right. I expected this experience to make me feel old -- seeing friends from 15 years ago and it being a memorial and all -- but I left feeling not half bad. For one thing I got to see some folks I really like, and for another I realized that time has not been as unkind to me as some others.

I'm starting to take this whole death thing in stride. I mean how many times can you experience it before you realize it's just a normal part of life, it's going to keep coming at you, and you have a choice about how you deal with it? Am I kidding myself? Or am I getting a little Zen on your asses?

I have got to go to bed.
