March Muddiness

Well, H never did end up going to school last week. In fact he's taken a turn for the worse and with only two days of antibiotics left I have little hope for a speedy recovery. I've had some really bad days. A is basically doing the minimum -- 4 hours per day, plus 24 on the weekend and I have childcare once or twice a week. I have felt pretty hopeless and despondent at times. I keep thinking, "this is how he will die" and feeling like things will never get better, that this is the level we will all be functioning at forever. I have hardly done a lick of work to earn my keep, and I am still unpacking. Ugh. Oh yeah, I have a rash all over my face from some new skincare products I tried. This is not shaping up to be my month.

On the upside, H was very sweet today when he got home from his dad's. It's finally warm enough for him to be outside for a bit, so we had a swing, and then cuddled and read some books, now he's taking a nap. I'm loving the backyard, even if it has been too wet to use it much. I've set up a couple sitting areas, a birdbath, a play area, and I 'm getting ready to plant my first garden since I was a kid. I made $700+ at the consignment shop in about three weeks! Hello Kitchenaid Mixer! I just forced myself to eat lunch and drink some fluids and in a moment I will get some more work done.

Here are some pictures of the backyard. It is relentlessly green. I might have to tack some colorful woven mats (see picture of deck) on the back fence to make it a little more festive. The front yard has camelias, rhododendrons, daphne, rosemary, lavendar, and blueberries!
Blackberry Benches
Soon you will be able to sit here and pick fresh blackberries without getting up!
Indoor/Outdoor
The furniture came with the house -- not my style but basically innocuous. Still need a fire pit and barbecue.
Fort Henry
Will have to add some piratey flourishes and mattress for naps in the summer.
Everybody Swings!
We have a net swing, strap swing, and toddler swing. I'm determined that any kid who comes over will be able to swing!
