Things I don't understand

I love Travis, but I don't claim to slways understand him.

As anyone who reads this blog knows, Travis's ex had their child back in May. An update on that, he is currently attempting to fight his ex for SOME custody of his child since he only gets to see her at most 4 hours a week, and most of the time only when his ex supervises it.

He is currently having issues figguring out what to do about raising his child in a church. His ex will bring Maddalin to a Catholic church whenever she has custody of her. Travis, however, being raise 7th Day Adventist, believes the Catholic church to guilt its members and to simply, in general, be wrong about a lot of things where scripture is concerned.

He agrees very strongly with the 7th Day Adventist Church (I must say, I understand why...it seems to abide by scripture in areas where the Prebyterian Church, where I was raised, does not.). Unfortunately he is merely too lazy to get up and go to church on Saturday morning. which I REALLY don't understand. If I agreed with my church I would go. I, however, don't and haven't really found one worth going to yet.

In light of this what he plans to do is send his daughter to church with his mom and continue not to go, which I kind of had a problem with. I mentioned the fact that Maddalin would eventually start asking his mom why her daddy didn't go to church. Unfortunately, neither did his dad, so he knows exactly how she will respond ("That's his choice"), and he not phased by this at all.

My general problem is that if he 1) agrees with the church and 2) Wants his daughter to be raised in it, then why the hell won't he go? This is a question for which he can't give any answer other than that he simply isn't ready to go back yet.

He thinks people in his church judge him for getting Jaymie pregnant before marrying her and even more so for the fact that he is not married to her and doesn't intend to ever do so. He thinks that those of them that know he's in another relationship judge him for that too. The thing is that one of the things he stresses so much about his church is that he believes it to be one of the least judgemental churches that one could go to. I don't understand how he could think both at the same time. I also don't understand why a guy who doesn't really care what anyone thinks of him would allow what he thinks they are thinking of him to get in the way of what he wants to do (He's nervous to even bring me to church with him).

I don't know, I just really don't understand why someone who likes and agrees with a particular church won't go to it.
