The following day with dl_greenarrow.

When Chloe woke up, she was in her bed, her memory hazy for a few seconds, it looked kind of dark outside, but it didn't sound like it was early in the morning, the traffic in the distance outside, it sounded more like rush hour than anything else ( Read more... )

He nodded a little in acknowledgement, taking a sip of the coffee. "I have," he agreed quietly.

"Do you think you'll ever get tired of it?" She leaned her side against the counter, resting her arm on it as she looked up at him. Oliver was human, after all.

A smile flickered over his lips. "Honestly?" He glanced up at her. "Not a chance."

"Yeah?" She grinned softly and shrugged a shoulder, hopping up on the counter and sitting next to him, "what if you decide that one day you wanna get married and have kids?"

He raised his eyebrows and glanced at her sideways. "Pretty sure that's never going to happen," he said with a shrug.

She shrugged again and shook her head, "why not? It could. I mean, it's not like you're Clark..."

Oliver grimaced. "Exactly." He looked at her intently. "I'm just a mortal, Chloe."

She frowned at that, "yeah, just like everyone else, so what? You plan on doing this as hardcore as you can and dying from it at a young age?"

"Well, when you put it it like that you make me sound crazy," he said wryly, giving her a look.

"Because is it crazy," she frowned more and turned a little to face him, "there has to be more to your life than just saving other people, things you do for yourself that have nothing to do with other people's needs. That's not being selfish, it's having something to look forward to when all the work is done or you'll go insane."

He shifted uncomfortably. "Yeah, well. I tried that. It didn't really work out," he said, looking down at his mug once more with a shrug. "And there are things that I look forward to."

"I'm not saying you have to have married and have 2.5 kids or anything, I'm saying that completely living for this isn't exactly healthy, what if something happens and you can't do this anymore, what then?"

Chloe took a deep breath and shrugged a shoulder, she knew that Oliver's relationship with her cousin had ended because of his superhero duties, just like Clark's relationship with Lana had ended so many times in the past because of his secrets, but she didn't want either one of them to lose hope because of that. They were both amazing men who deserved to be happy and they gave so much of themselves to this job, she couldn't help but wonder what would happen if they never got anything back.

"Never really given it much thought, Chloe," he admitted. "I've pretty much always assumed I'll die doing this." He glanced at her with a slight shrug, like it was no big deal. "I'm not saying I hope to die young, but if I do, at least it'll have meaning. A lot of people never find that." He gazed at her.

"Well, there will be no dying young for you if I can help it." She shrugged a little and looked at him sadly, "and I hope you can find something else someday."

Oliver was silent for a moment. "You really think there's anyone out there who'd be understanding about the green leather fetish?"

He rubbed the back of his neck. In reality, he knew himself well enough to know that it only partially boiled down to that. The rest was fear, plain and simple. Fear of having the people he loved and cared about snatched away from him, fear of losing them because of who he was. Even just losing them in general. He looked down at the floor.

"Yes." She answered firmly, keeping her eyes on him, "if you show them how much it means to you and tell them why you do it, Oliver, I have no doubt that you could find someone understanding enough to accept all of what you are." She shrugged and raised her eyebrows at him, "and once they get it, I think they would be incredibly lucky."
