(Backdated to Wednesday night. Tag whoever you want and meet other people IC.)As far as she knew, Chloe had managed to keep this a surprise. She had been planning on driving to the Ace of Clubs with Lois and Hal but since the cake had been delayed, she had had to change her plans, leave early to pick it up at the very last possible minute and go ( Read more... )

How could her mom stand that guy? It wasn't even like he was rich or anything! Just another famous jerk who promised to snag Cissie a role in yet another dead-end movie that'd probably become a cult classic in twenty years, give or take a few! Ugh. Some nights, Cissie just wanted to shake her mom and ask her if she even thought about the kinds of boyfriends she was dating these days.

Even though she was way too young for drinks - even the bartender could tell she was still in middle school - Cissie'd somehow managed to sneak away from her mom and "boyfriend of the month" to... do something that didn't involve being embarrassed and watching them make out in the middle of a restaurant.

The moment she saw the banner and the decorations, she couldn't help confusedly staring at them. Huh, so it was someone's birthday... well, at least someone was going to have a good time tonight.

Just as she got her second glass of champagne, Chloe turned around and nearly bumped into someone, someone who was actually shorter than she was and that never happened, "oh, I'm so sorry," she apologized quickly then paused when she saw a girl that looked even younger than Oliver's cousin and also who looked completely confused.

"It's okay!" Cissie quickly piped up, standing on her very tip-toes to get a better look at this other person. She was kinda pretty, now that Cissie could get a better look...

Managing a smile, she gestured towards the banner. "Whoever this Lois person is, I hope she has a good birthday! And um, I didn't mean to crash her party. Really."

"Oh, it's not a big deal," Chloe assured her and smiled, shaking her head. "The area is open, you're not crashing anything and I can tall you that because I'm the one throwing the party. Lois is my cousin." She said, feeling bad for the young girl who was obviously uncomfortable.

Relief immediately washed over Cissie's face. She was pretty darn sure she was blushing too, but the explanation was still better than she thought. "Aaah, okay," She giggled, trying to sound less embarrassed than she felt, "Then I hope your cousin Lois has a good birthday!"

Should she offer her hand? Cissie didn't really know, but she knew she'd rather stick around here than the restaurant. "Um.. if I'm not crashing, can I stay? My mom brought her new boyfriend over here and it's. Been really awkward."

"Thank you," Chloe said, grinning a little at her obvious relief. At the reason why she was there though, she made a face, "don't like him, then?" She asked, glancing toward the restaurant area.

Then with a shrug, she looked back at her, "I don't see a problem as long as she's not worried about you and you don't try and sneak into anyone's drinks." She said pointedly then smirked.

"He's a jerk," she responded flatly. Her mother really didn't have taste when it came to men - and she supposed it was no different when it came to her dad (whoever he was) - but it still wasn't fun to watch.

Oh thank god. Cissie beamed as she nodded, "Of course! Your bartender can make non-alcoholic stuff, right? Then I'm totally game. And I promise I won't make a fuss!"

Chloe grinned once more, this time at her enthusiasm. She felt bad for the girl, her dad had never dated around her, but she was always very curious and the one time she had been sure he was seeing a woman from work, she had been very grossed out. Of course she had only been twelve or so, she would definitely have had a different reaction to it right now, if he was still around.

"He can, with the umbrella and everything." She told her easily with a smile, "why don't we go get you one of those?"

Even with the umbrella? Cissie pumped her fist as she started to head towards the bar. "Awesome!" She giggled, carefully climbing onto a stool so as to not mess up her dress (if she even tore one bead off, her mom would totally have her head).

"Oh, right... My name's Cissie. What's yours?"

Hah no problem, I forgot about this too >< chloeas August 30 2011, 20:01:34 UTC
Chloe couldn't help but grin at her excitement, not that she could blame her, umbrellas were pretty fun. She took the stool next to the young girl. "I'm Chloe." She said, "so do you usually run away from your mom and her dates?" She asked lightly, not a hint of judgement in her voice.

Hmmm... Cissie had to think about that for a minute. "Not always," She admitted after a moment, waving the bartender down to make her a Shirley Temple. "Normally, the guys don't reveal themselves to be total slimeballs until we get to Holly---we get home and they talk a big game that they don't have."

She sighed, resting an elbow on the counter. "You'd think my mom would learn after the 5th one."

Holly-what? Chloe was definitely curious but she wasn't going to turn her reporter mode on the poor teenager. "I have to say, that doesn't sound like fun," Chloe admitted, she couldn't help but feel sorry for Cissie, her mom sounded like she was less than likely to get a 'mom of the year' award anytime soon.

"I guess at least she should be able to tell with this one soon enough and you'll get to go home?"

Oliver was just moving away from the bar when he turned, literally bumping directly into the younger girl. "Oh, sorry," he apologized, offering her a smile. He was glad he'd managed not to spill his drink on her. Although he couldn't help but wonder how a girl so young had wound up invited to a party for adults. Maybe she was a family member to the birthday girl, he reasoned.

She hadn't meant to not watch where she was going! Really! Gratefully accepting the apology, Cissie then carefully tucked back strands of her hair. "Ah, no, it's totally okay!"

Upon taking a closer look at this guy, Cissie couldn't help blushing ever-so-slightly. Hopefully he wouldn't turn her back to Mom! That'd just be asking for trouble. "So um, you here for the party?"
