So, as a salute to Memorial Day, I ran the idea (which was approved) by my boss to take donations for care packages to send to soldiers in the Middle East. About two weeks later, I am faced with frustratingly little support. The thing I've tried to stress is that you can bring stuff from home, such as newer old magazines, books, etc. You don't have to go out and spend a ton of money. In a department of over 35 people, 5 have participated. This is not what is getting me hot, though. Oh, no.
I decided today to sort through the stuff that was brought in during my lunch hour. Now, I brought in a large paper sack full of body washes, bars of soap, and hotel shampoos (all unused) last week to put in the box. This was the majority of what has been donated. And as I'm sorting through the donations, I come to the realization that... there's a bunch of stuff missing.
Yes, indeed, someone(s) has been stealing from the donations box. I am effing blown away. Two full-size body washes, a bunch of the hotel shampoos (many of them Bath & Body Works or similarly brand name), and three mini bottles of perfume were all lifted.
I am fully okay with people not donating. I mean, it's kinda frustrating that they're not, but at the same time, it's up to them what they want to do. I am not, however, okay with people stealing the stuff I brought in (or anyone else brought in) for their own personal use. This is skeezy on so many levels. It's like stealing from the homeless or something. You just don't do it.
I understand that alot of people are against the war in the Middle East, but maybe they could feel sympathetic towards the fact that alot of these people rarely have clean socks, have to beg for shampoo, and spend a year in the middle of a freaking desert without deodorant? So, like, I dunno, maybe don't steal the stuff that people have donated, at the very least?
