My first 'blah post' for Australia. I can't seem to write when everything is going so swimmingly well. I'm thinking that I'm sick. Finally all the drinking, late nights, active activities have taken a toll on me, and I've succumbed to the inevitable gravity of my decadent ways. But perhaps my late nights will be shot cause I've decided to lay off spending time with company in favor of work this week. No gym membership this week and perhaps I won't be pried away from what needs to be done with A's simpering puppy looks. Damn you Alice for perfecting that technique!
-The Antechinus-
Borrowed The Lonely Planet from Mr. Casper (friend from Washington met in Aussieland) to look up sites and tours for our trip to New Zealand (another story!). But because I was going to be productive today I decided to leave the researching trips part for later and just read the introduction for hopefully some information about the Aboriginals. But I came upon something vastly more interesting. The antechinu is a small, noctural marsupial native to Australia with fascinating gender roles. The males live for about eleven months, the first of ten of the eleven are spent eating massive amounts of food to grow. Then come the eleventh month, and they go crazy female crazy and all thoughts turn to sex. The last month of their life is spent having sex until they drop dead, really.. from pure exhaustion and the strain of their swollen testes. So by August, these male antechinus are dead, and believed by biologists to be a type of evolutionary adaptation to eliminate the competition.. which in this case is the male of the same species. Mother Nature knows best, I guess.
^_^
I'll have to have my rant on the deteriorating Y chromosome, yes guys.. this means all of you, in my next post. See yah.
