Okay, so the smoke alarms work.

Damn, that was incredibly, incredibly lucky. Way to try and burn down the house, chlare. Fire is fucking scary. My hands are still a little trembly. D:

oh dear, oh self..., oh crap, the state of me

I have to say, I immediately thought of you and decided perhaps we should both never cook on our own any more! Flames that are twice as tall as the pot are frickin' scary! But all better now! Dinner is even smelling good now that the smoke has dissipated a bit.

Personal chefs! We'll both get personal chefs, for the sake of the universe! What were you making that went ker-poof so impressively? (I... have to admit that the 'kitchen inferno = Megan' logic make me laugh though! XD)

Yes. And don't forget the butlers. :) I left some oil on the stove to heat up - I really had to pee so I ran away thinking that there was enough oil in the pan that it wouldn't heat up too fast since I had *just* turned the burner on, and when I got back... towering inferno which I totally thought was setting the cabinets on fire too but was thankfully staying under the metal hood of the stove. OMG heart attack. Stupid mistake I will not be making again. (Hee, yay! You do have quite a few kitchen forays that we've heard about. :D) The soup ended up turning out fine though since I hadn't actually had any food in the ruined pan... *shakes head*

Eeee, this is why I'm afraid to cook with oil! Probably a bit spattered out and set the whole thing going... Good for you for knowing what to do though! She assumes, working from the fact that you didn't burn the house down! *g*

I actually momentarily didn't know what to do! I had to stop myself from trying to blow it out or douse it with water before I decided to just yank it off the heat. That was enough to put it out. I think it was that the pot was sort of narrow - it was kind of a sauce pot, so the heat might've been more concentrated and the oil just got uber hot until it burned through - but I have no idea! *hands* I was super lucky!
