Bishop Allen

Not a person but a band. :)

Got to see them in person tonight, and it reminded me why it's fun to see bands in person. Not for the blown out eardrums or the pushy crowd, but to see the band interact together and see how much these people *love* what they do.

It gets me every time I see a real concert. The people up there? They have the big love for what they do. It's fun for them, and that's something I can never imagine feeling about any job I might have. It's a beautiful sight and it makes me smile.

Not to mention the good music.

Bishop Allen manages to use the word filibuster, write a song about the Monitor & the Merrimack, as well as list some of the most devastating fires in the modern world. I love the brains in their songs. Like they never really left college and they're still trying to smarten everyone up just a little. It's adorable because they use their references in such a way that you totally don't have to have a clue what they're talking about, but it's a whole lot better if you do.

They were such fun.

While I regretted getting there on time and standing alone outside, and then standing through the first opener, the second group from Seattle was worth a few more minutes standing, and Bishop Allen made up for the 2.5 hours of mostly blah that came before them. I should've went with my gut and came later, but I had a good time and somehow managed to get a tennis ball that the second band bounced off their drum set into the crowd. (After they warned people in the center to watch their heads... o.O Lawsuit waiting to happen anyone?) I think their name was...*looks it up* Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band. Yeah, it's a mouthful, no wonder I never quite heard it when they were up on stage.

Oh, and in case you're wondering, BA is that band from Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, though, I've not seen it and heard of them long ago in a land far away. ;)

So in sum, a good night and now it is way past time for me to turn into a pumpkin.
