Ficlet - The Zone

Summary: Someone besides Clark has come for Kara.

Kara's lived there what seems like forever. All there is is the dust and the wind, the hunt for her blood, the pain and fear and loneliness. Her home in the Argo City is a distant memory. Maybe she imagined it. Maybe she imagined I-pods and cousins who were more human than they were Kryptonian. Maybe it's all one never ending delusion. For all there is now, all her reality is the harsh light of the sun.
Another comes for her. Someone always comes and she's ready, her blade swiping out for them and it surprises her to watch the familiar blonde form catch it.
Chloe Sullivan, the girl Kal-El was too stupid to notice, is before her. Kara lands one good blow before realizing there's at least one friendly face in the zone. God, it's been so long since she's seen anyone, talked with anyone.
"Chloe?"
"Kara," she says, her voice breathy. Chloe leans up and kisses her and god it's something Kara's wanted for so long but never dared ask for, not with Jimmy between them, not with Kal-El's rules. But it's happening now and it's everything she's wanted and then...
Something sharp stabs at her mind.
Gasping, Kara pulls back to see Chloe's face, but her eyes are wrong. What's?
"Brainiac?"
"Not quite," Chloe---or is she Chloe---answers. "But we'll match soon enough." Then Chloe touches her temple.
Then Kara screams.
